Picking up new motor monday!

My motor that i bought from iowa should be here in minnesota on monday, Before i load the motor up in my truck what should i check out? The motor coming from a junk yard with only 55,000 miles, Im gonna check for any damage to the motor such as cracks and leaks. What else should i check out? My friend thats helping me with the swaping cant be there so i do not know how to do any test to see if the motor good to go.

I would definitely replace the timing/balance shaft belts and water pump before putting it in. Obviously make sure it turns over. You could pull the oil pan and make sure everything is all good with crank and rods. You could also pull the valve cover and check the valvetrain components.

Do a thourogh visual check of the motor check it for damages, Do a quick compression test, does this come with a warranty and what does it cover i bought a motor through a salvage yard only to find out that the head gasket was trashed and the warranty covered parts only i guess they didnt count gaskets as parts. If you have a small flashlight you can take the plugs out and look into the cylinders and see if the pistons look ok. but deffinatly do everything you can when the motor is out of the car save you the time and money of doin it all later
