I thought I would share...

Just bought a 98 GSX for $5000

120K miles
New:
Clutch (master and slave cylinder on a machined flywheel)
brakes
timing belt and tensioner
water pump

Mods:
o2 housing
megan turbo back
MBC
some kind of non-recirculating BOV
lowering springs
intake
tubular exhaust manifold
short shifter

Needs a few things here and there but in pretty good shape.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, the car needs to pass emissions in two months but has nothing even close to a cat converter....any good was to get one worked into my megan turbo-back? Something high flow woould be nice but not neccessary.

Thanks!

Thanks good tip. I will work on getting it piped back in...probably just going for a 1g BOV if someone has one laying around..

After doing a little bit of searching...

What does a "crushed" / "uncrushed" 1g BOV mean and can I just bolt it onto the stock 2g location?

Also, what kind of problems are we talking? Major issues?

pm me, i got one uncrushed in really good condition

And that is exactly why i love no emissions testing. I could register my car with the exhaust sticking straight out of the hood and the dmv could care less.

+1, me too, except the cops care:notgood::mad:

sir do you know why i pulled you over?
your the cop, you tell me!
your exhaust is illegal
how so?
its not stock, and is too loud, heres a ticket, get it fixed in the next few weeks
FML....:hmm: maybe he will forget :sneaky:*drives away with no intention of fixing a damn thing*

OP are you sure you haveto get it emissions CT is every 2 years and the emissions carries over to the next owner go to the dmv site type the vin see if it needs any time soon for all you know you can have a year left

Well idk where yall getting emissions at I just passed 2 cars in oregon and 1 in washington and only the 1 of them my 95 talon I had had to do sniffer the rest where just obd2 scanned. Any car like 97- newer does not need sniffer.Yea probably california but that is a stuck up state you can't mod your car if your life depended on it.If have to do both I guess your state sucks LOL but crumy have to do both wich only the sniffer would matter why waste time on ob2 scan if your sniffer passes that all that should matter.I know it's mostly different in every state but I was refering to his state.

You have to do emissions in portland? I am in eugene and no testing, I feel lucky.

LOL it is straight legit living in michigan compared to other states...dont wanna cat? cut it off LOL, no one cares or will notice. Makes me wonder how they moderate the 2 stroke cylinders in those states. The only vehicle i have that would pass an emissions test is my cbr.

Hey bro Im in southern OR and I am almost positive you will need a cat, no if ands or buts. I have a 91 and a couple years ago I just welded on a stock cat, got it to pass, then cut it off =) and now that the car is more than 20 years old its exempt from even a sniff test, you just buy tags in the DMV, but I went thru the DEQ station a couple days ago to get a decibel test (I was bored) and the dude about shit his pants when he saw my catless smogless car, he said and I quote "any car that had smog on it originally needs to have it still, it is a state and federal fine of $10,000 when its removed"... I said thank you sir I will get right on that LOL

Oops sorry didnt see your last post, guess your smog guy was cooler than most LOL. good to hear and nice buy!

It's all in a good tune and a healthy motor. Well and I guess a smog guy with a good attitude in some cases LOL.:thumb:

you guys do know its not the STATE that either does or doesnt have emissions laws.. its the countys and cities.. i live on and island in puget sound and there is no emissions testing. but there is in everett and seattle very close by.. just an example

Go to your state government website and search for the laws in your area regarding what types of tests are performed. It should be on that paperwork you have also. Don't forget about that pesky egr valve too. Here in Houston, they sniff and dyno pre obd2 cars. Just on fwd models. Awd just get the idle sniff. My nox count failed me the first time. Had the vacum lines wrong. Nice ride though, you'll have fun with it.

Beautiful Cayenne Red Pearl.

Very disgusting and hideously painted 2gb GSX wheels. Strip 'em.

Good luck with her, seems a bit high for that year and miles. I alway get the price down on cars with mods cause it's a clear sign it's been ran hard. You got to remember people are not moddin these cars to just baby them.

What do you mean for the year? If I had a 99 I'd trade it for a 98. If I had a 97 I'd want a 98.
If I had a 2ga, I'd just keep it.

So, I'm not exactly sure what you're getting at. It's not like he had the option of a 2012 GSX.

Ya not crazy about the wheels....Like the look of yours...those powdercoated?

Black side markers need to go too...

Bare Al. :shhh:

It allows lots of flexibility in color. Bright white to dark grey depending on what I torture the surface with, but I really don't recommend it. It's hard on the finish and they stay clean for about 9 hours.

ya not going to take it down that far...if I did I would get them powder coated...
