Had the VIS Evo style hood on my old Talon for 4 years using only the stock latch. No issues at all. Not even any hairline cracks or stress marks in the latch area.

I have a seibon oem style on my sti which has a scoop. Ive gone over 170 mph a few times and never had any problems. The hood latch is metal.

I had a oem style vis hood on my car for about 2yrs. I pulled it to about 140 a few times every weekend or so, never had cracks or and flying up issues. but I did worry about it sometimes... now I rock the stock hood...LOL

I've has a VIS CF hood (no hood pins) on my car for over 3 years... drove it in all seasons with it on there and never had a problem with it popping up on me. It was driven on the freeway most of the time, as well.

A thing to note on this is that the underside panel of these hoods are fiberglass and not CF. So this, may, in fact, as a little bit more weight than some other hoods out there and perhaps why it does ok. My hood was damaged when I got it, so that's how I found out its made of both carbon and fiberglass.

I also run the VIS OEM style hood on my EVO with no problems for 8 months. I think this style with the vent in the middle has a lot to do with it. The hood lets air go through it without pulling the hood up... IF mine were solid I would have used pins.. Just something to consider.

Running a carbon creation cf hood that I just swapped for last weak for my oem vented hood. I seem to notice some shaking at high speeds & it worries me.

I do not want to install hood pins either, but It is sounding like it will be worth it later on. Especially if i dodge unneeded repairs. Anyone paint their hood latches? I want gunmetal or black.

I've had a stock hood fly up on me and smash my windshield. Needless to say, my vote goes for hood pins.

I painted my soarcos black with duplicolor rim paint im probably gonna end up dipling in i acitone cause im worried it will chip, powder coatin is the only way to go.

so according to the pulls so far, more of you are NOT having issues with the hoods flying up. good to know guys. and for all of you that have not read that I DO HAVE HOOD PINS BUT THEY ARE NOT INSTALLED... this thread is not supposed to be people telling me to get pins or that pins are a good idea, i already know this, infact, im sure most people know this. the point of the thread was to answer the thread title only to see real results of peoples experiences.. but also according to the pulls. most of you are giving your input that dont even have a CF hood, id like to keep this to actual first hand experince if YOU ARE running a CF hood. thanks.

keep em commin

Never had any problems been running with the hood (in picture) for 1 1/2 years and no issues. Took the car throughout the whole rpm range and still no flying up and smashing the hood. I also see no shaking or loosening of the hood while its flat down and driving or whatever some others are experiencing.

thats what i like to hear, im curious if the vented hoods make for less wabble cause air is able to escape.

for all of you that had your hood fly up? were these all OEM style? or did you guys also have some vented ones fly up?

my hood lifted up 3 times before i installed my hood pins. just install them now and you dont have to worry about a new windshield.

that really sucks man..

Use em'. I had the same thought when my VISEvo hood came in...I was thinking "no effin' way I'm going to take a drill bit to this shiny new piece of carbon fiber".....then I thought "well, better to have a couple holes covered by a couple pins than a shattered hood, windshield and possibly destroyed roof"...just do it man. Better safe than sorry.

BTW, I have the same hood a jcart935 above, assuming his is VIS. There may be something to the OEM vs Vented and the need for pins, but regardless, I stand by my point - use pins, be safe, enjoy your hood for a long, long time.

yup i already planned on it, this thread was mainly a survey and personal experience as stated.. but i do have another side question, when drilling for the pins, do you use some kind of resin over where you drilled to seal the carbon again so no moisture gets under there? if so what is the best to use

I have had two carbon fiber hoods fly up and #### my windshield up, one from vis, and the other from a former vendor on here hi rev perfomance.

Anyone who does not use hood pins is taking a chance, that's all it is, does it look nicer without hood pins, yes it does, but it wont look nice when that shit flys up and breaks you're window going 120, and ####s up you're cf hood and windshield, when all could have been avoided for 50$ hood pins.

i think its funny how alot of people are saying its better to get hood pins, get hood pins etc... obviously i have said that and also multipule people have said that is recomended, manufacturer, even in my OP, I HAVE HOOD PINS RIGHT NEXT TO ME READY TO BOLT ON all i was asking is who has had what happen, how fast you were going IF something happened, and which hood it was. some of you guys are straying off topic, there are other threads asking IF they are needed, this thread is not asking IF they are needed.. if you are going to warn me or others of it flying up, im sure everyone knows thats a possibility. all im trying to do is gather information of how many people it has happened to, and hasnt happened to. out of pure curiosity... not because im asking if i should install them, because YES i do plan do that as soon as i bolt the hood on... the only reason i ever said anything about a rope or a tie down on the hood was to test if it was inevitable that your hood would fly up no matter what UNLESS you had pins and also as a saftey precausion during that testing to not actually damage anything. this obviously isnt the case as others are and have been running no pins for quite some time with no issues so far. this thread is purely for my curiosity and others with a similar question, and also to gather data on this topic (hense the poll)
thanks

btw not trying to sound like a dik or anything but comon, its been :beatentodeath:

still would like to hear about if a resin is needed for sealing the pin holes though if someone wants to PM me.

well this thread died quite fast. who else has has an OEM CF hood with no hood pins stay down with the stock latch. has anyone with a vented CF hood had it fly up? seeing a trend

keep the polls commin, so far luck is on the side of those not running pins

I had a VIS EVO hood on the Talon. I ran it without good pins. I was very skeptical of it after watching my buddy's cf Honda civic hood flap in the breeze. I have found my hood to be very stiff. It doesn't flap. I've never seen it move. It's not currently on the GSX because some jackass tried to steal it and broke the corner off at the windshield. Also I'll be damned if I ever was able to put my squirters in. Hood latch is CF.

It will be reinstalled in spring after I fix it. With good pins. And I know it might be sacrilegious but it'll be painted silver metallic to match the GSX.

I have a VIS cf hood and it had the holes for the pins but the previous owner took em off and on the test drive I was going on a long stretch and at about 130mph the hood flew open and hit the windshield like a sack of shit and now the hood has small spider cracks on the hump part of it but the windshield was perfect :thumb:

bad thing was I had to stick my head out and 100+ mph and its really hard to steer like that and had to limp back to his house and install those pins. On the bright side he gave me those pins free! :) LOL

The rope is a stupid idea. If the hood is flying up then the car must be at speed, meaning considerable wind resistance. Hood pops up, now it's a ####ing massive air brake with 3000+lbs behind it. That hood is going to fold so damn fast.

.Lmfao I see the logic! Though I don't think itll fold. As long as the duh ver isn't texting and has good reaction to slow down as it does. Or you can install an eject button for it and kit it a parachute to eject incase of emergency.

Jk.

Hoodpins help so why not? Its better to be safe than sorry. Not everyone can tango with chance and get away with it.
