I think people who've had there hood smack into the window should state which kind of Carbon Fiber hood was it ie: Vis, regular Oem looking one (no hood openings) etc etc...
IMO; doesn't matter. I've seen most "quality" hoods do it at one point or another. There are several pic threads around, too.

I don't know I disagree, earlier in this thread (or another im thinking) there were people stating hoods like the one I have and others don't really pop up. However certain other ones like the plain black ones are more common. Therefore if this is the occurrence or if its not a Vis then I believe it would be of importance.

I simply don't understand why anyone would want to be "that guy" that wanted to save 20-100 bucks only to lose 500+ when the hood hits. If you are comfortable taking that chance, by all means, but the insurance here is cheap, effective, and stylish in the case of Aerocatch. ;)

Well the purpose of the Op's thread is to get opinions from people's experience with the VIS hood with/without hood pins. Now if the people that are posting are talking about experience with a different hood it should only be natural they state which hood they used. Otherwise the information is slightly misleading. It has nothing to do with being "that guy" whose to cheap to buy something its about gaining as much information about the situation as possible. Not to mention if only a certain type of CF hood is flying up and smacking the windshield of the car, then I believe that is very useful to know.

the spider web cracking is usually in the gelcoat not the cf. i have had several seibon 3 vis hoods and a pair of deft racing hoods

I'm on my second VIS CF hood. The first one I had I used with a latch and no hood pins. Ended up flying up cracking my windshield and damaging the hood. Bought another one and installed sparco hood pins and I do not use a latch now. Been very satisfied with the hood with hood pins for about 3 years now. Very secure. I think hood pins are definitely the way to go with carbon fiber hoods.

after my first hood i have always just removed my latch off the car and used just the pins. usually the locking aerocatch pins.

as for saving the $$$ they are 12 bucks for a set of cheap cotter pin style latches at autozone. or take a walk thru your local junkyard. found 2 sets of aerocatches at the yard in the last few years

Reasonable enough.:thumb:

Do the pins it would save money from the sound of it I know I don't have an extra 300+ on top of the 300+ I just stuck in a hood. Plus I'm to broke to have anything nice haha

Dustin

I just got the Vis CF hood and installed it, everything fit up perfect, I'll post pictures asap, but my hood pins wont be in till monday, so its sitting in my garage till its finished,

i've been too scared to drill in my hood, im rockin a ghetto status rope to secure the hood just incase of a fly up but otherwise am just using the stock latch :) rope in the hood prop and out the latch part looped and tied and then another looped rope where the bumper bolts are:cool: ugly yes, effective yes. the two tied loops are tied together with screw style carabeaners found at the hardware store, its very effective. i think i'm gonna get aerocatch. My sparcos are just too ugly to stick on LOL. until then i have had no issues with my little ghetto method LOL its cheap insurance that works and doesn't require drilling in, sure people question, why do i have a rope in there, but what ever :coy:

there has been good information in this thread thanks for contributing guys! seems most of us stock hood latchers are having no issues here. at least those that voted. :thumb:

2g with a vis hood stock latch at 130 its been fine so far but switching to pins anyways.
