Hello! I just picked up my first turbo car a 1990 talon tsi awd, but I'm very new to the whole scene love cars but no nothing about them. I picked this car up for cheap $500 but now I can see why it was. This kid murdered the car ripped out all interior not in a smart way either and the engine is basically held together by tip ties from what I seen. So she is rough. Big plans for her. I am just trying to get it driveable atm. The current problem I am having now is that i am not buikding any boost. The fella said it ran fine. [Probably shouldn't take his word] but I am getting vacuum but higher Rpms it's like it's cutting out. Please help. All new to this

Boost leak test the intake tract from the turbo and I bet you will find leaks. Use a spray bottle with soapy water to spot leaks. If you can't test, go around ALL of the couplers between the turbo and the throttle body and tighten them all up.

Beyond what was stated, it wouldnt hurt to change the plugs or at the very min pull them and re-gap them. (If you buy them, use NGK Plugs, $2 a plug)

I have ngk spark and wires on the way suppose to be here tomorrow so I have that covered.

I guessed there was a boost leak somewhere just didn't know where to start. But I will try that after work.

Now when you say breaking up, do you mean the car has no power when this happens? Does it completely die, no power? Does it hit a limiter? Or does it still continue to pull while breaking up?

the car idles just fine. But when you give it some gas the vacuum won't pass 0 and it will start shuddering really hard.

When you say you give it gas, I take this as, you are trying to set off with the vehicle? Or you are driving the vehicle and you go to give it gas and you cant get past 0 vacuum?

Driving it. I get to sb9ut 3500 ish rpm and it just shudders. I'm sorry for the ignorant responses. Haha. But yes the vacuum just stops at 0 and won't start to build boost.

Chances are, either the turbo is shot or you have a crazy boost leak somewhere. Take off the intake and see if you can move the internals of the turbo. There should be minimal side to side and hardly any in/out movement in the turbine shaft.

Chances are, either the turbo is shot or you have a crazy boost leak somewhere. Take off the intake and see if you can move the internals of the turbo. There should be minimal side to side and hardly any in/out movement in the turbine shaft.

Had a buddy come look at it. Big dsm lover he says the turbo is blown lucky I picked up a evo 3 16g the other day! Thanks for th3 helo!!
