1G Valves hit. Do I need new pistons?

my timing belt broke a while ago, and valves smacked. my pistons don't look too bad, but was wondering what you guys think.

there's divits in the pistons but none look cracked, I'm trying to do this for semi cheap so if I could get away without new pistons it would be nice.

I'd say you are probably ok, but I am in the same situation with one of mine. I am pulling my pistons out to check for ring binding after the valves crashed the pistons. I am replacing rings and rod bearings and putting it back together as long as I don't find any problems, or that is my goal anyway.

Looks fine to me also. Just clean off the carbon deposit

As mentioned already, at least pull them out and see if the rings are pinched in the grooves.

You would be able to tell much better if they were clean, bare metal.

Make sure there aren't any sharp burrs or points where the piston is damaged. Smooth those areas out if they are raised, otherwise they could create hot spots on the piston tops.

forgot to update: got the car all back together with a used head, headgasket, timing belt etc. car runs great. although i have a large oil leak coming from the turbo.

I would bet money your good. I had worse looking contact than that and it's going on 3+ years on my GVR4 with 187k. I had metal build up from the contact that i had to grind off with a dremel. Rebuild the head, slap a new timing belt setup on and send it! I did
