So! I was in need of an oil change this weekend and also had my 4g63 Hyundai Valve Cover lying around, so I painted it and put it on, and when i went to tighten the bolts down I found that the 3 back holes were completely stripped and I was also missing two of those special Hyndai bolts. Anywho, I decided to just bite the bullet and convert the bolts to studs, so I went to Ace/Parkrose Hardware, got me some 2" and 1" studs, unfortunately all the metric studs they had were too short so I just grabbed me some Hardened Steel 1/4-20 {bottom} / 1/4-28 {top} studs and just tapped the holes in the head to accept the 1/4-20 threads, Loctited them in, and now im just waiting a few more hours for the loctite to fully cure. I also had to get some metal sleeves to act as spacers since the Hyndai VC bolt holes are larger than the OEM VC, but everythig went on fairly well!

8*x 2" 1/4-28 / 1/4-28 Hardened Steel Studs**
6x 1" 1/4-28 / 1/4-28 Hardened Steel Studs**
1x Small Tube of High Strength Loctite
1x 1/4-20 Tap
14x 1/4 Washers
14x 1/4 Lock Washers
14x 1/4-28 Nuts (I used castle nuts but you can use whatever you want)

*WARNING: of the 8 bolts needed for going around the outside of the valve cover, the top right and bottom right bolts MUST BE SHORTER THAN THE OTHER 2" STUDS. the reason being that the cam gears WILL GET IN THE WAY of you slipping and putting the valve cover on properly! I made this mistake and had to then RotoZip them down so I could get my VC on.Im not sure what is the ideal length so test your ability to put the Valve Cover on with the studs installed before you Loctite (if you choose to) them in.

**NOTE: if you can get long enough Metric Studs then go for it, the only reason I went and converted to Standard is because thats all the store had and I didnt care since I Loctited the Studs in and wont be taking them out.

Why not go to the dealership and get them? Or just buy longer bolts?

So I'm having ahard time understanding WHY you converted over to studs? If you had a couple stripped out, you should have just helicoiled the hole..The nuts your putting on are going to scratch the hell out of your newely painted VC, unless you dont mind..But I would love to see the VC put on..

Oh man, taking that valve cover off in the furture is going to be a paaaaaaaaaaaaaain!

It actually wasnt too bad, I had to take it off after I put the VC on and it just a little extra wiggling.

The reason I converted was just because I thought it would be more convienient and would give me the peace of mind that the VC would be secured undoubtably. The studs didnt really scratch the VC, I used the washers to keep it somewhat scratchproof, although that didn't fully work as well as I had hoped, but its only a rattle can paint job so its whatever plus still looks pretty from a distance!:D and I will upload some pictures when I get home later.

Sounds like a huge hassle. If it were me, I would have used the Moroso stud kit and fixed the damaged holes with a helicoil kit.

Totally wish I had found that link before I did the studs, lots of info that would have been helpful and probably would have helped prevent at least 5 of my 7 injuries during this conversion:p
