possible? yes. expensive? very. worth it? not really.
just sell the thing and buy a gst or gsx :thumb:

Go head and get a 2.4 motor out of the neons not the new turbos but the R/T i have been seeing them for cheap. Thats if you want to save some money on installing an v6 then and plus u will be different. Just my .02

I just purchased a '96 Eclipse that already had a '96 Avenger engine installed. Ran great for the first two weeks. It now has intermittent problems with power. First problem was at 75 mph when RPMs suddenly dropped and when I pulled over it would not idle properly. Restarted the car and it then ran fine. The next day it wouldn't idle properly for a while. Took it to a :dsm: dealership. They said that the Avenger engine would "not work" with the Eclipse computer. Seems to have "worked" fine for 3 months. I plan to check the obvious things such as fuel filter, water in gas, etc.

My question: What are the consequences of the Avenger engine being run by the Eclipse computer? What are my options if I determine the intermittent problem is caused by this mismatch?

i doubt you are going to find much help here. this seems to be a one off sort of thing, as in not many people have done it or have any experience with it. mabye find a good shop with dsm experience, they might be able to figure out your problems. much luck

isn't the avenger engine the same as our 420A? i know the enigne code for the avenger is A588 which is generally the same motor, so i may not be right but from what i thought its the exact same so you shouldn't have any problems with that i would think, i know that when you go to a dealership and its not mitsubishi but the sell chrysler for parts they look at you when you say mitsubishi like " this isn't no import garage" but most don't know the two platforms are the same for motors. I looked at an avenger first and it had the Exact same motor, except the firewall info plate stated the engine code as A588 but we looked it over for quite a while an its the same as a 420A motor.

So just make sure you do a lot of research before you take somebody's word for it, but if i am wrong please do correct me so i can lear more about these.:dsm: :thumb:

Are you running the I4 or the V6 Avenger engine. If it's the I4 its the exact same thing, the dealership was just trying to scam you.

The engine is the I4 and is running great. There haven't been any problems since the original problem.

The :dsm: dealership claimed that everything above the block is different. I guess what will "not work" are the ECU codes, since I now have had two shops plug into the ECU and the readings are out of norm. My plan is to run it till it drops and hope any time there is a problem, somebody can diagnose it without the ECU.

Yup! A V6 into out 2G! Has anyone else done this on the forum?

The Matrix has you... please wake up, because if you were in the real world, you'd realize no one WANTS a V6 in a 2G.

Is it possible to take a 2G body and Chass and drop and 02 V6 with turbo and would there have to be any mods to the firewall etc. Money is no object. This is a project car 98' GS any suggestions welcome..

Thanks

wow that seems like a lot of work but would be cool, the only things i could think of that would have to be modded would be the motor mounts and propably some cutting of the engine bay and firewall to make it fit properly and have some room in there if you ever wanna work on it, but im sure it might be possible, im not the best mechanic but if you got the money and the time i would say go for it. Good luck. GhOsT
