urgent question about rear differential mystery fluid PLEASE READ!

I was about to go and change the rear differential fluid in my car and when i opened up the drain plug i noticed that the fluid was pink!? i dont know if this means anything, but on the differential it says "Viscous LSD" and the stuff coming out looks like peptobismal. can someone tell me if all i need to put in is regular gear oil, or do i need this pink stuff? and what is this pink stuff?

seriously though, i need to make sure this isnt something special... i had regular penzoil gear oil im going to put in and i wanna make sure im putting in the right stuff. ive never seen pink gear oil before...

hmm, is it? that would be good news. i would put redline in myself, but i cant find anyone around here that carries it and i really wanna change it all before track season. i might change it again in the summer just for the hell of it...

anyway, yes, it is pink though, like peptobismal... the stuff that gets rid of blockages in humans...

Good Thinking on the Redline! Mine was a Silver - mush - Flushed it out with some Brake Cleaner & it's been great for 15K miles.

I say that's "Siver Mush" & Red Gear Oil - Spray some Brake Cleaner thru it & let it run out the Drain Plug. I went back with Synthetic in my LSD rear.

I don't know what color the silicone fluid in the viscous coupling is, nor if you can make it leak out other than with the use of explosives.

Can you track down the last owner and find out what they'd used? That's really weird.

negative. the dealership i bought it from went out of business. i let that stuff drain out and i just replaced it with gear oil and then i drove it and it drove just fine. the tranny is still making noise, but i think it is because of my synchros, so off to the dealership it goes for my last bit of warranty work.

that stuff did look really weird though... definately unlike anything ive ever seen.
