upgrading the stock 1g maf what are my options?

I have everything do to my car that i can so far without upgrading my maf and injectors, so now i thought i would start to put some money away to do so

as i let this money pile up i thought i would look into some other options on what maf setup i should run

i want to max out my e3, 25lbs maybe creep it up to 28lbs, and i plan to stick to pump gas which is 91 octane out here

my original plan was to go with what my friends have which is a 3in gmaf and a translator but i was wondering my my other options may be and if this would be the best choice

im not going to run 550s and a 2g maf because theres not enough fuel for my goal

High 11's are well within the capabilities of a 2G MAF
 
I'm running a 3 1/2" gm maf and maft on my 1g. I can tell you that by running the gm maf and tuning the maft correctly that the response from the turbo is a lot quicker. It spools a little earlier and hit full boost a lot faster after I removed the 1g maf. I even tried a 2g maf but the maft setup was the better option.

I'm running a 2g MAF with 1150cc injectors on E85 and I've ran 11.7@123.. with my drag radials alone next spring and my current mph I ought to hit low 11's however I'm lookin at 10's with some upgrades I'm making.

The 2g maf is more than enough for the typical DSM.

Theres no point to change unless you're going sub 10's imo
 
alright i'll start to put away some money and do a 2g maf setup since this is my DD and i think 11s is going to be pushing it a little, being that it is my DD
 
I vote speed density. I have never heard of any tuning system that is perfect and doesn't need to always be messed with to keep a PERFECT tune, MAF, AFM, or SD. Outside temperature change doesn't matter. It's the temperature of the air at the intake manifold that matters. The GM MAF I think it totally stupid and not very consistent at all. That is when used under pressure in the charge pipes, and just makes the point even clearer that they are made to read at the air filter.
 
It's not that the 1G MAF can't handle bigger injectors. Like I said, whatever you are using for fuel control (SAFC, DSM link, etc.) is the limiting factor in the size of injectors you can run.

It's more that it's pointless to run really big injectors with a 1G MAF. Say the 1G MAF starts becoming really restrictive at the airflow levels needed to make 350hp (I'm not sure if this HP level is correct), well then it would be pointless to run 1000cc injectors on this setup when 550cc injectors will get you to that horsepower level.

In the spirit of preventing the spread of misinformation :) :p . . . It's not about restriction that makes the use of higher flowing injectors pointless. It's the fact that the maf only meters accurately up to a certain volume flow. The evo 8 maf has an inlet about the same in area and somewhat similar screening/straightening of the air. That will meter far more volume flow; and proven in the 50lb/min range, give or take the ambient conditions.

The 1g maf begins to skip counts at AROUND 30-31lb/min (of whihc is massflow, and ambient conditions alter this number). the actual number in hertz counts is about 2100hz. Once you're in that area, you will see the meter suddenly lower in counts, telling the ecu that there's far less injested air than actual. Injector pulse width falls dramatically to keep the maps programmed air/fuel ratio on supposed target. That causes an extreme lean condition. Further, the point on the timing map changes to a much higher number when the airflow count changes, as a timing curve turns down as you gain airflow. Double jeopardy.

Haha...touche :ohdamn: What I should of wrote is that a 1G MAF cannot support the airflow to need/utilize very large injectors...better? :)
 
Better than 1g. Meters more than 2g. But has proven to have the tendency of sucking in the air straightener at times just a hair over what the 2g/3s maf can meter unhacked. So to me, the safest highest metering maf thats proven not to drop hz counts at 50+ lb/min is the 2g/3s maf. after that, deal with the gm maf nuances, go to speeddensity. or clamp you maf if you decided go the easy route (work smarter not harder) and use link.

hmmm...i was going to go evo maf...should I not. Planning on a 47-50lbs min turbo.
