update hole in block

pulled the head today and its not good there is a missing piston in number 2 cyl. and have snapped rod and chunk out of the crank and broken piston rings and also went through the front of the block and the back about the size of a baseball. will post pics soon as i take the motor out and go through everything.

Could you not see the baseball size hole in the front of the block before you pulled the head?

i could see the ball size hole in the front was hidden behind the 02 housing.i how ever did not know about the hole in the back.i can see a peice rod chunk with a wrist pin in it through the hole in the back.

damn... you did it up right... means the piston is in lil chunks in the oil pan

yup its all inside and in little slivers all over the engine bay and block.what sucks is i never even made it 20 feet on that motor. but now i get to build a 6 bolt but now i cant use the 2g pistons on 1g rods setup.really wanted to do that come since i cant get all forged internals. need to find some one close to me that would like to help me put the 6 bolt together.

How could you have not run it enough to go 20 feet, and yet have it grenade to that extent? That sounds to me like high RPM and/or high load destruction, which shouldn't ever be an issue on a motor with less than 20 feet on it.

It sounds to me that you didn't put the circlips in the pistons if they were full float, or they were improperly pressed on.

Uhhh... I don't think that damage was caused by a crappy idle, no matter how lean it got.

how do u post a pic i got the motor out of the car just now so would like to post pics.from what i found is that a rod snapped off and the wrist is on the snapped rod looks toasted. i had a shop press my wrist pins.they also polished my crank dont know who is to blame me or the shop that did the parts.what do u guys think.i know that one of the rods may have been put on backword on to the piston. i have heard that they need to face the same way a certain way.i know the pistons all faced the same way.

Not to bust your bubble or anything but A crappy Idle from being lean wont cause what you have done too your engine.

Sounds to me like she was screaming 6500 and let go!

no because i was able to get in to 1st gear to start going so i couldnt be that high in rpm range.

Well, if he launched it at 6500 I guess it would only go 20 feet or so at those RPMs til it let go.

Only other way it could be is if the motor was really Really abused before he rebuilt it and the gentle break in he was attempting was enough to tear the bugger apart.

Won't be able to tell till we see pictures.

Looks like the hole is roughly the size of a freeze plug. Little bit smaller. But those pictures suck.
