I have a 1998 GSX. The stock 7 bolt took a poop and now there is a big hole in the block. What should I do? I already have upgraded turbo, exhaust, intake, manifold, cams, injectors, dsmlink, etc.

Do I?...
1. Get a 4g63 motor (out of a 90 laser) for 250 from local shop and build it up.
2. find another 7 bolt to swap in and risk engine failure again
3. buy a real expensive built motor
4. add your own opinion here...

Id like to build up my own but im not sure how this motor would work with all my 2g parts going on a 1g block.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Agreed. For me, I plan on building my car up right, one time, and driving it for a very long time. I'd do the 6-bolt swap just for longevity's sake. One good thing about building up your own motor is you can tailor the motor to what you want out of it. If you want more low-end and don't mind the tuning, you can go with higher CR pistons. If you want more boost and don't mind the wait, you can go lower. Monster torque = 2.3 or 2.4L stroker or 4g64/g4cs. Those, and a whole bunch of other things. Do your research, you'll learn a shit-ton if you do it yourself. Or, if you're really not comfortable with it, you can buy the parts and have a shop build it. You'll save money that way over buying a pre-built motor. I hope for your sake that you have another car to drive for the time being- replacing your motor is not going to be a quick task no matter what you do. In my case, I bought a $1500 96 Cutlass Ciera to thug around in until I get my car built perfectly. It's not that bad, honestly. You've got a 98 GSX- what more could you want besides a 6-bolt, eh? Onward and upward :)

I would go with the 6 bolt too. Less to worry about and as far as the 2g parts that you have you can allways use the 2g head on the 1g block it will allow for more flow. you will have to mod it a bit but it's not all that hard and vfaq.com has all the info you would need for the swap good luck :thumb: :talon:

I looked at the engine today. Looks like a deal, plus I talked him down to 200. The only thing is I was wondering what I will need to get to make this swap work. i will have the motor on monday. Id like the more boost setup then the more torque. Thanks for the help.

I don't know what your budget is but I would run 9:1 wiseco pistons, eagle rods, use arp hardware for everything. while you have the head off port that thing, add some highflow vavles, and add some hks 272's front and back. If you have another couple hundred you can spend buy some crower titianium springs/retainers and you there you have it a really good engine.

O the only other thing. Can I use this motor for this project even tho its a N/T 6-bolt?

Its coming out of a FWD car also. if that matters.

Thanks again

If you are building it, it should be fine because you will be changing things like pistons and rods.

There are a few people running 6 bolt nt blocks. They are ALOT easier to find then a good 6 bolt turbo block, and ALOT cheaper. As long as you are planning on rebuilding the bottom end, you will be fine. Of course you will want to rebuild it with turbo parts inside though.

The big difference in the nt and turbo block itself (not including interals) is the oil squirters. Weather they are actually needed or not is argued back and forth all the time. There are people running without the squirters and no problems. I myself had the machine shop put the squirters in the nt block I used for my 93 tsi. Others don't bother.

Good luck
