I have a 2G Turbo:

I have an unusual noise coming from the engine. It's only present at idle and low RPMs and it does go away as the RPMs increase. The closest thing I can think to describe the sound is a "whine." However, that's still not quite what it sounds like. I've noticed it for a couple months and the car has driven just fine, but on my way home from work the other day, my clutch started vibrating and I had real issues getting the car into gear. I was only a mile away from home, so I got the car home and then didn't drive it for a couple weeks. The car starts up now, but it makes a horrible noise when I press the clutch, even if I just barely press the clutch. I'm assuming that that is a bad throwout bearing and my understanding is I can drive the car with the bad throwout bearing as long as I can deal with the noise. However, when the clutch is fully to the floor, my RPMs get very rough and the car sometimes stalls. Is this also indicative of the bad throwout bearing or is there another problem with the clutch or some part of the clutch assembly (master cylinder or something like that)? Back to the engine noise, as I feel like it may be unrelated. Here's a YouTube clip of my engine:

Eclipse Engine Noise - YouTube

You can hear the sound at the start of the video (ignoring the abnormal rocker clicking that's common on the 2G's... I'm aware of that noise), but after I rev the engine up, the sound goes completely away. When I come off the throttle and the engine returns to idle, you can hear the noise very loudly and quite distinctively. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I've got the camera focused approximately where I think the noise is coming from. I can't tell if it's present right underneath the valve cover or if it's coming off the left side of the engine block.

Thanks so much for the help!

Edit: I just drove the car around for a couple miles and it was very difficult to keep the car from stalling anytime I decelerated. One important thing I noticed there was a whole bunch of white/grey smoke coming out the exhaust. Do you think the turbo has gone bad? The car has about 145,000 miles on it.

I just drove the car a couple miles and noticed a few things. First, it was very difficult to drive the car and prevent it from stalling anytime I tried to downshift. Second, there was quite a bit of white/grey smoke coming from the exhaust. Do you think the turbo has gone bad?

My car was doing the same. It ###### has crankwalked. How many miles on your car? Mods?

when you come to a stop sign or light throw the car in neutral and rev it a lil. Will it stall then? with ## foot off the clutch.

there are a few red flags i would throw with this sound. but it sounds to me like crankwalk has started. your turbo would have to be all the way blown to cause major issues. I known mine is on its way out but i can still drive the car with no issues. Do yourself a favor and check your crank pulley. If it seems tight and there is no side to side play when you pull on it. Then you know its not crank walk. I would think a bad tob is the least of your worries .. Good luck
