1G non-turbo 5-speed cruiser. Already found out that she needs a volt meter (since i am planning on installing an audio system). Tach and speedometer are obviously needed, along with gas tank level, water temp, and oil pressure gauge (installing a mechanical instead of factory electronic one).
Should there be anything else? Don't want the dashboard to look like something out of a 747, just want to have enough gauges to keep an eye on the engine and transmission.

Just depends on what you want to monitor man. I'd recommend an electronic op gauge if your not running the stocker, I personally wouldnt want live oil running 2 ft. from my face.. :thumb:
an EGT could be useful, but there isn't much thats really necessary from what I can tell in your situation.

On a sidenote.. where the hell is the rest of your car at ? LOL

Codym, i was thinking to put the mechanical OP gauge under something like a small hood scoop near the cowl panel (with the opening pointed toward the back) so there is no oil going into the cab. Might shove an EGT gauge in there too just to make it more like a gauge pod instead of a lonely gauge. The rest of the car is actually in the barn behind the camera :) Doing some work to her, but this seemed like a good day to get her out in the sun, give her a bath, and take some pics while she was still wet and shiny.

FlawlessTSI, i have heard that stock oil pressure gauge is not accurate on the 1G. Is that not true?

-Nice man, looks great for a frame :p like I said it really just depends on what you want to monitor based on your needs for the car. I probably wont go for the 747 look on the inside of mine for quite some time.

& I'll vouch on that statement,my factory oil pressure gauge doesn't read worth a crap on my 1g, works like a champ on the talon. But I use eletronic aftermarket ones in both, I like to be on the safe side :hellyeah:

Is that a targa top I see, or do my eyes decieve me :sneaky:

Ok, so will probably stay with factory setup (with mechanical oil pressure gauge) , a voltmeter, and an amp meter (mostly for the stereo system, it's fun to watch it jump around sometimes). Don't see a need for an EGR since this is not a turbo. Do want to add an intake temp sensor, haven't decided if the factory sensor should be used for that or to stick an aftermarket one somewhere near the throttle body.

What is so inaccurate about the OP gauge? Is it the gauge itself or the sending unit?

Some , even with a turbo, delete the EGR anyways( including me), along with other emission crap, there's ways to get around inspection of that's a worry. I know people in Texas, but my car is registered in Oklahoma cause they don't require inspection. Probably explains the rink-a-dink cars driving around.. like a camry going down the highway with 3 donuts LOL.

IAT, EGT would both be useful, you could do an actual water temp for a more descriptive reading intead of high or low.... ERMMMMM... I'm brainstorming on what you could use, but theres just not that much that could be beneficial for your setup. Vacuum pressure ? Haha

IAT? What's that?
The EGR stuff is long gone. After all, this little car is not near as bad on environment as some diesel pickups that kids around here drive. And speaking of vacuum pressure, have seen something like a mechanical vacuum gauge but it was marked for i believe air-fuel mix... Does that sound anywhere close to right? Seen it a long time ago, not even sure what that was, just remember it was hooked up to a vacuum line.

Intake Air Temperature
& honestly, I have no idea what the vacuum gauge does or how it works. I think they are meant for the "naturally aspirated enthusiast" since they can't have a boost gauge . There are numerous things that hold vacuum pressure, maybe someone else will chime in on what they do.
