I was browsing through the vendor forum looking at any good deals, and came across these turbonetics turbos. Im looking for an upgrade to my dying T25 and am wanting something more than a 16g. Im just basically looking for your opionons on this turbo. I couldn't find anything searching, I think its a pretty new turbo. Im looking to get in to the low 12 range and 400whp range. Of course Ill be getting the additional supporting mods (dsmlink, fmic, fuel pump and injectors). RS49

I'd strongly recommend going with the RS60T instead, especially considering the nice discount. You'll never have to upgrade again and it has a T31 so it's streetable as well with a tolerable spool-up. It will give you noticeably more lag compared to the 49, but more abundant top end pull which will more than compensate for the low-end sluggishness. The 49 can still get you to 400whp, but your goals are borderline for that turbo in my opinion. It will be much easier to hit 12's with the 60. Good Luck.

Look up info on a T3/T4 50 trim, such as a PTE. They are very similar, but AGP builds a beefier turbo.

Beefier turbo? Can you explain this to me? No dis-respect to Kevin or any of the other guys at AGP. Just wanna know what this means? As for the original post... i have to agree I would look into the RS60. Especially being fwd. But I am kind of bias... I like top-end better and will sacrifice spool time for it. What can I say.

Looking at the specs of the rs49 and rs49t, there doesn't seem to be any differences other than the compressor housing being polished and saying turbonetics. I have the RS49, and I love it. I don't recommend the rs60 (or rs60t) for a stock motor. I know a few people who tried that locally, and they all ended up blowing their motors. The 50-trim is perfect for the goals you have. Good luck with whatever you choose.

For the RS49T, in a 90 Tsi, would i need one of the elbows AGP offers and if so which one?

You will need some sort of elbow, but I recommend getting a silicone one from ebay. You can't beat the prices on ebay for silicone hoses, and you can turn it the other way when you decide to get a different type of intercooler piping. :thumb:

So what? People have "blown up" motors on 14b's. If you can tune, and keep it within a tolerable boost range, you won't have any problems. People run these at 20-22PSI all day long and make over 400whp on pump.

This is true, but if someone knows enough about tuning, they wouldn't ask which turbo is right for them. I'm sure other people would be fine with the turbo since the people who blew up their motors were complete morons. ;) hehe
