i am not new to dsms, but i have for some time been considering a turbo timer. I have fmic, k&n Filter, full 2 1/2 inch exhust, rebuilt motor, bsek, and a few other misc mods,. What are the advantages to having one? do i really need it?

your right that the turbo timer wouldn't take away the whole problem

There isn't a problem. You are trying to turn it into one :)

considering that turbos spin at over 100,000 rpm, I'd like to shut my car off with the turbo spinning as low as possible

:ohdamn:

That's while they are flowing buku air through them while under load and in boost.

You don't plan on parking the car and jumping out at 20 psi and 6000 rpms do you? LOL

Have you ever listened to the exhaust of a straight piped engine or diesel? When you shut it off you can hear the turbo slowing down AFTER the engine has been shut off. Those few seconds that the turbo has no oil circulating through it can add up over time.

Which has shit-all to do with DSMs and their little tiny turbines.

I'm curious why no one's copied the VW-Audi method of using a circulation pump when the engine's turned off.

the only reason for having a turbo timer is so that oil will still be pumped into the turbo while its spooling down. once you shut the car off the oil stops circulating, all the while that turbo is still spinning at 1000's of rpms. 1990awd made a vaild point. the timer has little to do with cooling. it's used to make sure the turbo is getting adequate lubrication.

Thank you guys for all the information. (Defiant - calan)
EVERY single guy that takes a look at my car says: "You should get a turbo timer !!! ", ha ha
I've always wanted to get one, but now I think I'm going to spend my money somewhere else.
I really don't think my 14b will benefit from it, plus I always drive it slower before parking it.
