In my opinion, I think turbo timers are overrated because I think if you take the last couple miles easy, and change your oil regularly it should not hurt your turbo to shut it off when you park. However I still see it as cheap insurance for your turbo and being as I just pulled my turbo today and I'm going to rebuild it this week, I think I should install one. My car came with a greddy turbo timer (not installed) but previously installed on another car with the wiring all hacked up. I'm looking to get a different one and I don't need a fancy one. I've seen brand name ones such as HKS on amazon for 30-50 bucks but the same ones are way more expensive on performance parts sites. Am I missing something? They cant be some ebay knockoff... so why are they so much cheaper, and should I trust it?

I see no reason why those couldnt be knockoffs as well. As their job is very black and white I guess you could check it out.
well the only reason I say they couldn't be knockoffs is the listing says hks and the picture is of the same thing as other performance site parts. I guess ill just order one and if it looks like some ebay knockoff I will just return it.

When it comes to pricing either some people abuse the names to get a few extra dollars or they come with extra bells and whistles. The Greddy I have in my Eclipse right now has 3 selective settings but the HKS i'll be installing soon has volt meters along with a driver timer(the longer you drive, the longer it keeps the car running once key is removed). Be wary though with those cheap ones, friend bought a $25 Greddy from eBay and it ended up just being the outer shell with a dot matrix, no actual working components. Got his money back but just annoyed on the time wasted.

What turbo are you running? If the water lines are still connected then it's pretty much not needed to wait or have a turbo timer. IMO, it's completely uneccesary to have a turbo timer. Just don't go boosting then shut the car off. Save your money and by more go fast parts. Your turbo most likely developed shaft play from improper oiling.

Yeah I mean I guess it could be some ebay knockoff but really I don't need anything fancy just something I can set a time to keep the car running with. And IBoostDSM im running the evo 3 16g, but currently looking for a new one at the moment. Yes the waterlines are still connected, but why does that matter? I thought it was more for the oil than the coolant.

Well I've always been a big fan (get it fan like as in cooling down??) of letting all my cars idle a bit when I park. Turbo cools off, cat cools down, and overall I just feel like the car "settles" but that's me. I also like to idle for 3-4 mins before leaving anywhere and lots of people don't do that. It's all how you drive and how you want to treat the car. If you do want a nice turbo timer that won't break the bank but is very good quality I suggest Innovate Motorsports. They make a great digital turbo timer that doubles as a volt meter and can triple as a wideband o2 gauge if you buy a wideband from them. I'm not a rep but I've seen this thing in person and its small, crisp screen, and just works well.

$79 and pretty easy to install.
