Turbo timer location

Where have you guys mounted your turbo timer? Please include pics if you can, I am installing mine and have no idea where to put it. Ideas...?

I've got an HKS Type-1 mounted right on top of my steering column. Works great there as the shift light it has is easily seen.

In my brothers 2g he just put it right above the steering column. Looks great and easy to get to.

My friend Yee got a Blitz or HKS TT (can't remember which one) and put his under the steering column. But, he's Asian and short, so his legs don't hit the steering column. Mine do, so I couldn't put mine there. Plus, I got the Apexi TT with the battery voltage, O2 voltage, and A/F reading, so I wanted to put it someplace visible.

Here's where I put it:

What we had to do was unplug the wire from the control module and push the connector through the hole in the plastic. Some of the contact wires got a little bent, but we managed to bend them back and plug it back in just fine. All I wanted was a clean installation; no wires looped under the plastic or anything. I think this achieves it. Note: The switch is for the fan override. Note #2: Pay no attention to my shitty, seven-year old CD player. I can't afford to get a new one yet and this one still plays CDs (most of the time) so it stays for now.

The Typ-1 is a little more expensive than most turbo timers but its more than just a timer so its not a terrible deal. It'll do 0-100, 200 kmh 0-100,200,400 meters as well as acting as a shift light. It has full auto timer abilities as well.

Check around for a used one. I scored a deal and got mine for $60 with the harness.

I have it mounted on my steering column as well, but I have installed one in the center console so it is kind of out of the way. I have mounted my profec B there since is well hidden and looks pretty custom. One thing to keep in mind. DO NOT DO THIS if you have not pulled the center console out. There is a stand off for the shoter boot right about there that you do not want to have to cut into. But here is the pic of my profec B and turbo timer is the same size so it will work (like I mentioned before I have mounted a greddy TT in the same location).

I added a litle bracket that isdouble sided taped to the center console and bottom of the device. I do not if it is required but it makes itmore solid after wards. I just bent the piece of sheetmetal by placing a bit of it over a brick and smacking it a few times with a hammer. Sorry I do not got a picture of the bracket

Well, it depends on what you want to use it for. If your just going to use it for timing your turbo, you could put it under your dash. Otherwise, the light will get REALLY annoying when driving at night. My hks type 1 has a blue light and it's mounted on my steering column. Because of the bright light, I get a headache when driving at night from the glare. But if you going to use it for the shift light function too, I would put it on the steering column.

Yep, am I the only one who thinks that the friggin type-1 needs a damned dimmer switch, that thing is bright as all hell that close to your eyesight. My gf laughs at me since my face lights up like a smurf while driving.

No, you are not the only one. At night, that thing is hella bright. When the car time's down, and flashes red and blue, its remids me of the good ol times when the cops were pulling me over at night!

Haha, never thought about it like that. I used to be able to see mine count down from across the apartment's parking lot.

You ever have to explain to an officer that you can't shut the car off after he's pulled you over because the auto timer's set for over 2 minutes They get all corn-fused over that one.

But officer, I don't want the turbo to sizzle in hot oil! Actually, I usually try to cut the car off faster than normal so they don't harass me about loud exhaust. Sometimes I will turn the TT off at night then turn it back off when I get out, so it doesn't hurt the eyes.

Have an Apex`i, ended up sticking it on the center console lower trimstrip, and tucked the wire behind the carpeted panel. Works well, and doesn't get in the way of disassembly. Also easy to pull off if I need to. I'll grab a picture in the morning. Saved my butt twice when the alternator took a crap, with the voltage readout.

You should like write something on how you did that, because that is how I want mine. Nice and clean looking. I am using just to time turbo nothing else. I mean maybe I might use the shift light and the 0-60, 1/4mi on the HKS....

Looks like he drilled a hole and then cut the wire harness then slipped it through and re-soldered it, and plugged it in

Nope, no cutting of any wires. The control box is located under the shelf on either side of the steering column. It just kinda sits up there nice and snug. From the display box there's that black wire and it ends in a white plug with a few wire connectors on it. We just took the plug out of the control box and managed to squeeze it through the hole. The guy who helped me install it used to do car audio and whatever he does turns out golden, so I knew I could trust him. He's also a pretty damn good mechanic. When it gets warmer, I might take some pics of the whole setup.

Does anyone else have problems with the TT coming up. So when you tilt the steering wheel up it clamps the wires and that makes it pivot upwards. Cause i have mine on with vel-cro. And it does that. Very annoing. Any suggestions?

So what I'm wondering is what tool did you use to make the cutout so the turbo timer could fit in that panel?
