Turbo Timer Hardwire Install Instructions on a 1GA

First of all, I recommend the hardwire method of install over paying money for a harness, unless of course you absolutely hate wiring. This walkthrough will work for 90% of turbo timers out there, as they generally all use the same base wire color.

What you will need:

- Turbo Timer
- Razor blade or exacto-knife
- Scissors or wire-strippers
- Electrical Tape
- extra 18 gauge wire (aprox. 4 feet)
- extra 22 gauge wire (aprox. 2 feet)
- Zip Ties

1. On the lower dash (under the steering wheel), pop off the square bolt covers and remove the 4 bolts holding the lower dash on. You don't have to do this next step, but its easier if you remove the hood release lever by unscrewing the 2 screws, and popping the cable out of the lever, so it can slide through the dash (so you can completely remove the lower dash from the car.. it will get in your way).

2. Remove the 4 screws holding on the plastic steering column cover.. they are all on the bottom side of the cover. The top and bottom of the steering column cover are clipped together, just pop them apart and remove them (its easiest if you lower the tilt all the way down first).

3. There are 2 pieces of plastic tubing that will be in your way under dash. They are each being held in by 1 screw.. once you remove these screws you can take the plastic pieces right out.

5. Now for the fun part.. directly behind the ignition switch are bundles of wire, each contained in their own black plastic sleeves... cut any zip ties or clips holding the bundles of wire together. Feel directly behind the ignition switch - the black plastic sleeve coming from the ignition switch is the one you want. Slice a 6 inch or so slit down this sleeve, to open it up. Careful not to slice into any wires. Pull the wires from the sleeve so you can work on them. I just cut the sleeve right off. If you've cut into the right sleeve, you will see 1 solid black wire, 1 solid blue wire, 1 blue w/ red stripe, one black with grey stripe, and one black w/ yellow stripe.

6. Now... if you still have a connector plugs on the end of your turbo timer, cut them off as close to the plugs as possible (leave as much wire as possible on the turbo timer). Mock-up the mounting place of your turbo timer.. (a good place is stuck to the lower dash). You're probably going to need to extend the wires from your turbo timer, so strip the ends of the wires on the timer, and extend them by connecting approx. foot long pieces of extra 18 gauge wire.

7. You are going to have to expose some bare wire on 3 of these wires... the way I did it was by slicing along each wire about an inch, and pulling the bare wire out of the plastic (Don't CUT the actual wire!!! just the wire insulation!!) and connect turbo timer wires by wrapping them around the exposed piece of wire. Tape, and tie a single zip tie around each connection to ensure the wires don't come loose.

Connect and tape 1 wire at a time, in this order:

-- Solid Black (12V constant power) to --- RED on Turbo Timer
-- Black w/Grey Stripe (ON 1) to --- GREEN on Turbo Timer
-- Blue w/Red Stripe (ON 2) to --- BLUE on Turbo Timer

DO NOT tap into the solid blue ACC wire, or bridge any wires together. This is not the correct way to install a turbo timer on a car with two ON wires (like ours).

8. Connect the Black ground wire from the turbo timer to a non-painted metal surface connected to the chassis.. I removed the carpet wall (to the right of the drivers feet) and used a bolt on there to secure the ground wire.

Connect the small Brown wire to the wire that is at the base of your parking brake (easy to see when your parking brake lever is up). If you do not wan't the turbo timer to need the parking brake up to operate, ground the brown wire to a non-painted metal surface.

(Optional step): If your turbo timer has a Purple wire, it probably has the auto-timer feature, and the 0 to 100kmh timer feature. To use these features, you will have to connect this wire to wire/pin #18 (speed sensor) on your ECU wiring harness.

9. Zip Tie the bundles of wire back together. Re-install the plastic vents. Put your plastic steering column cover back on, the lower dash and hood release lever. Mount your turbo timer (or don't).
