Hey guys how is it going? I am in a bind i am looking to upgrade my current turbo system and purchase something nice that's gonna get the job done for me.

Currently i have a built short block with eagle rods, weisco pistons, balance shafts removed and head wise i have a set of mainly 1mm over valves a set of brain crower 272's and a magnus intake

Now what i am looking for is a turbocharger that will make around 500 hp and have decent spool time.....preferably before 4500. Boost wise i am looking to run around 30 psi.

Now i have received tons of great feedback over the years from this site and i am just looking for some suggestions from users who have had luck with a particular product and can give me some info

Thanks again
Kevin :talon:

race gas we run c 16 and i am looking for 500 wheel at this point

I'm running the Borg Warner S256 in the Bullseye bolt-on housing, I've seen ~50 lb/min on pump, haven't tuned it on race gas yet. DSMlink estimates ~420whp as it sits and shouldn't have a problem hitting 500whp on C16. A friend's HX40, also in the BEP bolt-on housing, has made 516whp on C16 and run 11.0 @ 128 with basically a pumpgas timing curve. They both see full boost by just under 4k.

Lots of research prompted me to buy a proven 500whp capable turbo...

Did you see the pics I posted in the other thread like this?

Your short block is more than capable (I have stock 1g everything south of the head gasket) of the goal you have set.

Go big...

If the PTE line of turbos is not enough, I know plenty of people on GT4088, GT42/R's.

The PTE-SCM-6152e has put down over 500 whp on more than 2 cars so... to me for the On Sale Price at SBR of $749 it kinda puts a damper on wanting a $2000 dollar turbo with custom V-bands and shiny do-hickeys on the back burner for me.

Here let me RE-Illustrate the 16g vs. 6152e on my kitchen table (oh and thats a TDO6 20g there also) :

Not everyone wants to go that big. What RPM do you see full boost? As for the "more than 2 cars" comment, I'm assuming you're talking to me. Plenty of others have made as much power or more on both turbos I mentioned. Maybe they're not as popular as everyone's beloved Garretts, but I choose to try new things instead of going with the herd. Based on this thread, there are only a couple of people doing anything impressive with the SCM6152 (maybe you'll blow us all away with your setup): http://dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249425

I've also seen enough mixed opinions about PTE's quality that they'd be my last choice. That pretty much leaves FP as the only other bolt-on option, and they're more expensive. As for the pics, exactly what are you trying to point out? That a 61mm wheel turbo is bigger than a 16g? I think we all know that. Read the original post:

You could stop at telling him why you like your choice without resorting to throwing jabs at other people's choices.

The quality of that turbo in the picture really does'nt look too good. The castings dont look like they are finished very well. Maybe they are and its a good piece, it just looks kind of bad.

Ouch!

You trying to hurt my feelings? I felt a tear swell up then I laughed.

For the money and bolt on- ness, its clearly a win win vs. Your others.

Don't hate me cause I am right.

Move on, we are just helping with suggesting a turbocharger, not telling him which doctor to get Triple Bypass Open Heart surgey from.

You didn't answer my question. What RPM do you see 30psi by? Everyone I know with that turbo is lucky to see full boost by 5k. You might also want to update your profile. Or is 13.x still your best time? I can post a pic of a bunch of turbos, too. Still don't see what it would accomplish.

Big boost and fast spool dont happen on our cars unless you have nitrous.

If 500hp and fast spool is your goal, a 50trim has been there on pump! Look up Dre.

I don't recommend trying to reproduce that because maxing out a 50trim like that is NOT going to be easy. Personally I prefer to get something a little bigger, sacrifice a little spool, and make it easier to reach my HP goals.

As for my recommendation, I'd go with a new Garret GT turbo in a divided housing. You could get a 30r which will be maxing out around 500awhp, but will start spooling around 3800, or a 30/40r which will spool up quick on the gt30r hot side and has plenty of compressor with the 35/40r compressor wheel over on the cold side. The 30/40 will spool a little slower because of the extra inertia from the larger intake wheel, but it would be where I were looking to go for your goals.

I would'nt neccesarily say "fast spool" on a 50 trim. I just installed one for a guy and it's definately not a fast spooling turbo unless you were to get a ball bearing center section, which is why I would recommend one of the gt series of turbos

1. Anyone looking to buy a new Garret turbo should be looking at buying a ball bearing.

2. Notice that I also recommended the GT series of turbos, but I'm not sure if he can afford one. (mani,02)

3. You cannot compare the spool of a 450whp on race gas turbo and a turbo that has done over 500whp on pump.

Although they are expensive, my favorite DSM turbos are still the FP30/35 series. Many have ran GREAT times and made good power on these. and FP>PTE always.
