My turbo is spooling very loud and it almost sound like a super charge like noise but not quite. does it sound like a new turbo>

Depending on the type of sound, the bearings inside the turbo could be going bad, I just dealt with a Volvo XC70 with a turbo that sounded more like a hairdryer than a turbo but it still spooled o.k. for about 3k miles and then blew up.

You should have your own forum.

I answerd this question for some one 2 days ago...a search would have shown that.

It can be anything from a Blown turbo to a T-Belt. I say search and make a list....go down it and rule out everything untill you find you problem.

That's what my B16g soudned like when I took it off.. It got REAL loud after an hour on the dyno.. Almost sounded like there were two turbos spooling in unison.. Hard to describe the sound :)

I ripped it out and put in an evo3..

my friend sayed its probly just the intake. i have an Injen IS series intake.

put the stock intake (using your new filter though) back on and see if the sound is still there. The sound will obviously change but it will let you know if the difference you're hearing is just in the pipe itself.

when my UICP and BOV was not secured tight and was leaking i noticed a lot louder noise when my turbo spooled. even when i gave it partial throttle i heard the turbo spool really loud even at 2k.

First figure out if the sound is normal turbo noise by comparing it to a friends DSM or anyone else with a turbo. It should sound like more of a hissing than a whining. THen figure out if the sound is boost related or RPM related. I've heard several alternators go out that sound like superchargers (RPM related) and many many turbos that go out that also sound like superchargers (boost related).

As suggested before, check your turbo for shaft play and check your IC pipes for signs of oil. Does your car burn any fluids or smoke at all?

How many miles are on this turbo?

My T25 failed in two stages. First (I think), the shaft broke on the hotside. This gave huge shaft play, and the compressor wheel was rubbing in the housing. It sounded like an old-fashioned fire engine siren - WAY LOUD, but would stop, then start, the pitch would vary independent of throttle position or RPM. Two days later the thrust bearing dissintegrated, and I put out a quite impressive smoke screen. Later, I pulled the oil pan (for other reasons) and found the thrust bearing pieces.

Like others have said, a failure like that would show up as excessive shaft play (I didn't know about any of this at the time, of course).

Mine sounded exactly like that. Your lucky though, I found my thrust bearing in my oil pan as well...except that most of it was through my entire motor with the consistancy of Orange Clean. Needless to say, that was the start of a new motor build.

I parked the car within 30 seconds of the smoke and had the car parked for 2 months while I upgraded, and it was during this time that I pulled the oil pan. I found like 6 pieces laying right where the turbo oil return tube dumped into the pan. I could piece them together and make the whole inner ring of the thrust bearing (well, it was 270*). I wasn't sure what it was, though I suspected that it was the thrust bearing, so I Googled for it and verified what it was. I figured the rest (outer portion) was still in the center section which I never disassembled due to my lack of the sir-clip pliers to pull the compressor housing off. Guess I was lucky.
