I'm looking for a 450+AWHP turbo to get me into the high 10's with minimal lag that does not cost 2k.
I was thinking about either the SCM3431R or the GT3676R, but I am unsure what kind of HP these turbo's will put down or what Turbine A/R ratioe to order.

I don't want to run 40psi or a super laggy turbo as this is my daily driver, I have a couple of NX NOS kits layin around the house one is dry the other is wet, so I would rather go with a "better responding turbo" with NOS than to have a HUGE slow turbo that is only usabe for 2k RPM. I want to make atleast 450 AWHP on the boost with no spray.

Thank's in advance

I would say look into 3076R, a Holset HX-35, or a Borg Warner S256 would all fit your needs. If you want to retain your stock manifold style your options are FP3052 ( a GT3076R in a bolt on housing with a .68 a/r and a v-band o2 flange), which would cost you just over 2k all said and done (you need a wastegate and special o2 housing as well), I run this turbo, full boost feels just slightly behind where my E3 16g would hit and on a really rough tune (10.7x:1 AFR, no timing advance) it netted a 122mph trap speed. Several people have gone 10's on that turbo. Other options for staying bolt on would be the HX-35 or BW 256 in a Bullseye bolt on .55 a/r housing. Both of those setups all said and done could be had for probably 1300 or so depending on where you source your parts. Finally, if you go t3 you could have the 3076R in either .63 or .82, the .63 would probably fit you goals, but it might be a bit too small to hit 10's on, I'm not sure. The other two could be used with their stock housings and a little finesse or in a bullseye .70 a/r housing with a mistsu o2 flange. The BW and Holsets are newer on the scene, so there's not much info on them. Also, I would get bigger injectors, I upgraded from 750cc to 950cc when I went 16g to fp3052 because the 750's couldnt fully support that turbo. Good luck! Your goal is the same as mine.

I'm thinking about going with some 1250cc inj. but I'm not worried about those untill I figure out turbo to go with.

I'll do some research on those turbo's see what kind of prices they are at. I'm trying not so spend 2k on the turbo swap though, being how I've droped alot of coin on this car so far I dont think the wife would like another 2k+ check droped on it right now, but I want to get out of this 16g ASAP and I got about $1,500 or so I can sneek past her :rocks:

Do the Holset's bolt up I though they where T3 housing's?

S256 should get you there as well. I get full boost at roughly 4k on a 2.3 and see 54-55 lbs/min of airflow, all through a SMIC.

A bolt on housing for holset will cost you $220 for a stainless and prices vary on used holsets but are very affordable for their capabilites and will most likely be your cheapest option. gt3076 as well as s256 and s258 will get you their with good spool and the s256/8 have pretty impressive compressor maps imho.

Who sell's the Mitsu Holset's and wich one would I be best off with? S256, GT3076, S258,HX-35?

Tim's turbos as well as Turbotrader sell these housings. Used Holset hx35(h1c) and hx40(h1e) can be had for anywhere from $100-500. 7blade models flow better than 8blade for hx35&40.
Any of the mentioned s256/8 and gt3076 will meet your goals but i think you can put a bolton holset together for less than $500 if you shop around which is much less than the others. Dont forget youll need oil lines as well as IC piping mods and a smaller fan. But youll most likely need this with any of the mentioned turbo.

I'm not lookin to go used for my turbo. I already have aftermarket fans mounted to the front of my radiator for extra clearance for the ext. WG, and short route piping kit.

I'm looking at the S259 Extended tip very close now, I haven't found a S258 yet and I'm not sure if the S256 will fit my need's.

I found a Holset HX35 for $950 wich make's it a couple hundred less than the Garrett's :rocks: But I'm not sure on how reliable this turbo is gonna be if you say that only a few ppl are running this now. I'd rather pay a few buck's more for a reliable turbo. But if you say this turbo is a good one than I will more than likley go with it.

Are you insinuating that Garrett's are reliable?

Everyone I know that's switching to Holset is doing so because of Garrett's (and related companies like Turbonetics, Kinetic, and Precision) poor reliability.

The Holset is one of the most durable turbos out there! My friends Ram has 200k+ miles and his Holset has no shaft play. It has superback compressor that adds to long life as well. There is so much Holset info on this site if you search. Ive seen new Hx34&40 for well less than $950
Heres a new hx40 7blade cartridge on ebay for $299obo
eBay Motors: HOLSET HX40 TURBO CHARGER CARTRIDGE DIESEL GAS CENTER!! (item 380097424924 end time Feb-14-09 22:33:26 PST)
Get the bolton housing, and a compressor housing($10-150) and your good to go.
I just might have to get it myself! 20+psi at 41oorpm with hx40 bolton and thats almost a 70lb/min compressor

I've had 500% better luck with Garrett center's than with Turbonetics, I have 2 .67 Turbonetics sitting on my shop table, and I'm not able to replace the center's because Turbonetics no longer makes part's for it, so I'm shipping those off for a Garrett conversion when the time comes.

In that auction it say's KKK John Deere is the part number, if this is something that John Deere has used I can get these at price from work (I'm a Deere Tech) but as far as I know Garrett's are the most popular.

"Ive seen new Hx34&40 for well less than $950"

Would you mind telling me where at? I haven't found very many site's who sell the Mitsu housed HX35.

I've had 500% better luck with Garrett center's than with Turbonetics....
Every Turbonetics turbo I've ever rebuilt had the AiResearch "A" cast into the housing, telling me they're using Garrett center housings.

What's the difference?

Well you can buy the turbine housing separately for $220 that will bolt up. The centersection clearly states holset and has a part#. You can contact them again to verify.
Ive seen John Deere turbos on ebay that i believe were gt3076 and gt35s. you may want to look into that one!

eBay Motors: Holset HX40W Turbo Brand New Authentic (item 270331117475 end time Jan-22-09 18:12:33 PST)

It's no secret....they're out there.

Add to that a Bullseye housing of your choice, and you're sitting on a brand new HX40 for $700ish.

P.S.- That HX40 cartridge in the listing a few posts above is no Deere or KKK part. I'd imagine the seller used another listing format for that particular part and neglected to change the info. It's been done.

In the older Turbonetics ex:Cheata serie's, they used there own center's, there newer stuff I'm not sure what they use,but I've never seen a factory Garrett center in a Turbonetics though and I've bought my share or a few ppl's share of Turbonetics product's for my car's 3 alone on my Turbo Regal. The twin's on my table are off of my 302 SBC build wich netted 1103whp at Top Speed in the Mustang.

LOL yes I am serious, and that is the place where I found the $950 HX35, but you said they can be found for much less, so I looked and found nothing!!!And on another note I'm lookin for new a new turbo and on ebay they seem used or have bent fins wich they fixed, I'm not interested in repaired new center's, I'd rather get the whole turbo complete ready to bolt on and if $950 is the best price I can get it for im going to go that route :)

Thank's for the welcome bro, I though building this car would be cheap but I was wrong LOL, I've had this car a month and so far I got over 7k in it (including the car)

I do serch but my result's are not what I'm trying to find (the new factor I guess)?

What is your deal bro? WTF

I was gonna go for the GT30R, but these guy's talked me into going HX35, I just talked to my local turbo guy and he is getting me one for $975 OTD with tax and shipping :rocks:

Thank's for the help guy's. My turbo should be here by the middle of next week.

What would be a good # to tune this turbo at? I'm thinking 25ish psi. Will I need my NOS to hit my goal of 10.999?? If so what size shot?
