i have what i think is a 14b(haven't really checked )and the is shaft play in and out
what dose it mean and what parts do i need to fix it??

Your bearings are worned out, get another 14b.Rebuilding one will cost more depending were you take it.

fwdmaster is correct it will probably cost you more to rebuild it then just go buy one.So just shop for a new 14b or just use this unfortunate event for an excuse to upgrade to a bigger turbo

used but in good condition 14b's go for $100 to $150

You could 'replace' your dead axial-shaftplay having 14B turbo with another 'used' unit that will fail and give you problems again or you could upgrade to a 16g (which is what the car should have been sold with) which will not blow your engine if run at stock boost. Your datalogger will tell you if you're getting too close to maxing out parts or not. I'd be hard-pressed to find a good used 14b without over 100,000 miles.

To be very honest and blunt with you, every piece of that turbo will need to be checked to tolerance and finish; when bearings go out in turbos the cause other parts of the turbo to "run" out of place and balance and also clogging vital oil "arteries".

The in/out play is caused by the thrust collar wearing a groove into the thrust plate. This normally happens when the thrust plate is deprived of oil for some reason....

Installing a new turbo isn't going to fix the problem if the problem isn't the turbo. Something caused it to blow....now you must find out what the problem is.
