alright so i tried everything to get this one busted bolt out of my turbo. where the exhaust manifold connects. well. i screwed it up in the beginning and i didnt drill it in the dead center of the bolt. so i took it to a machine shop deal today and they really couldnt get it out! just kept drilling in the part i had and it started walking its way towards the threads and drilling into the cast iron part of the turbo. NOT GOOD. i dont know what else i can do.. im SOOOO damn close to just putting it on with only 3 bolts!. its pissing me off so much!

Well, it maybe too late for this but, I have a similar problem. I just got some 3/8 X 4" grade 8 bolts with nuts and plan to run it through the manifold to the turbo. If I have to I can adjust the threads and bolt size and hook it up like that. It seems like a pretty easy fix to me.

I hope that this is some help to someone. If anyone has anything to say about this, it will be appreciated. :thumb:

Heres another addition to this question. Has anyone not been able to extract the bolt out of the turbo and had to send it to a machine shop? Thats what it looks like I have to do. I think some of the threads are shot. I am going to try to get the threads re tapped but, if not I may just have to use those grade 8 through bolts.

If anyone has anything to say about this that has gone through this before please don't hesitate to help. Also, how many people have ran with just three bolts hooking the manifold up to the turbo? If I get this fixed I will post up what happened in a couple of days hopefully...

I just did this 2 weeks ago, and let me tell you the only thing that worked for me was heating the bolt till it just starts to turn red, then crank that sucker... all 4 of my bolts needed to get heated and so did the o2 housing bolts :)

I once f'd one ofmy bolts on a brand new turbo as well. Here are a few options:

1. Get a better drill bit- i think the one I liked the best wasa cobalt bit. Turn the bolt into swiss cheese and use some kind of center punch to punch it out, then retap (assuming you have some threads left) and use a stud in that hole (this is what I did).

2. take it to a shop and have someone burn it out with a torch.

3. Drill the whole thing out -- loosing whatever threads you have left and simply use a bolt & nut to hold it onto the manifold.

There's probably more options those are all I considered.

I forget what size tap is needed to retap it, but I DO remember it was 7$ at the local advance auto parts store here.
