hi i am currently in the process of modding my 96 eclipse gst. i am looking at upgrading the turbo next. i want something that will just bolt right on without any major changes to anything. i am looking into the big 16g. any ideas on what one i should get? nothing to crazy because its still the stock block and am only going to be running about 13lbs.

Just get the MHI small 16 or big 16 they are pretty bulletproof

With that said search... There are endless threads on this subject :banghead:

Your profile doesn't appear to be up to date but assuming your car is stock then don't bother upgrading the turbo especially if you only plan to run 13 PSI. Trust me, you'll want to run more and for that you'll need Gauges, Wideband and DSMlink . You'll also need injectors and eventually a fuel pump.

If you have that already then you're good to go. As far as bolt on turbos, (Evo III) 16G, 20G are both reliable turbos. Then you have the range of 50 trims with mitsu hot sides. All you need is some piping to make those work.

What's you goal for the car?

i have a blow thru convertion, translator, tial bov, intake, headers, down pipe, dump pipe, exhuast, intercooler, boost comtroller, boost guage, mishimoto radiator, and im sure im missing some things. does this change anything?

FP big T28 is direct bolt on for the 2g.

Forced Performance Turbochargers: DSM FP Big 28 Turbo

The 16g will require a install kit.

is that turbo worth the little bit of extra work?

Pf big t28..Direct bolt on for the 2g..The 16g's require some modding or and install kit to be a direct bolt on to the 2g..

is it worth the little bit extra?

Do all your maintenance first before you think about the turbo. After maintenance follow the upgrade path under the tech tab to reach your goals.

Tech Guide: 2G 4G63t Upgrades - DSMtuners

all maintenance is done. i dont want to get into actual engine mods yet so a upgraded turbo is the last thing on my list.

The fp big t28 flows almost as much as the small 16g, and is a direct bolt on for your 2g..A little bit of extra work I would say not..

But if your talking 16g's, and plan on modding more down the road then yes it's worth the extra work and extra cost of the install kit..

Also make sure you add all your mods to your profile..

ok thanks i think i will go with the big 16g. i do plan on doing more mods down the road. is there any other turbo that might be better and is bolt on or has just a installation kit?

The evo 3..Myself I would do small 16g or evo3..Screw the big 16g..But any 16g will require the install kit..

And then there is also the fp 68hta..It's like a frank 16g but more badass....But this turbo runs around a grand ported..The t28 runs like 800, and the evo 3 runs 559 shipped plus porting, so 660 ish..

so the evo 3 16g ported with the install kit would be like 800? and do you have a site that you would suggest? (extreme psi?)

also what are your views or anyones on buying a used turbo?

Just trying to figure out where you're at with you build. You're profile is not filled out and you asked a vague question with no information provided.

Oh and i just filled out my profile i completely forgot, thanks for reminding me.:thumb:

If the turbo is from jusmax141 then I say got for it., As far as used turbo's go.He does great work...Extreme psi, fpturbo..Those are the two I trust the most..

One more question, with the evo 3, do i need injectors or a lager fuel pump? If so what size ones do you suggest. Thanks

If you get dsmlink, fuel pump, and afpr..I would go as big as the wallet allows..So down the road when you really turn the boost up you don't run out of fuel..

But on the other hand evo 560's can be picked up for cheap these days..I would still go larger, more room to grow..

You will not need the upgrades if you keep it on the stock WG pressure..But the turbo will creep and you might hit fuel cut..But you will figure that one out when you get her all set up.

But if you plan on turning up the boost to say 20psi on the 16g then yes you will absolutely need injectors, fuel pump, etc..

So you won't need that stuff right away but the boost bug will hit you..And you will eventually want to up the boost..LOL

Yes you will need to upgrade the fuel system you can get by with an evo fuel pump or walpro 190 and injectors and a evo maf or safc. If you got larger then evo pump or 190 you will need a afpr. If you are planning upgrading more in the future I would suggest getting walpro 225, afpr biggest injector you can afford and dsmlink.

You do not need to spend tons of money on an install kit you get almost everything you need on your own at a fraction of the cost a install kit will cost. I did this with my 14b install which is the same as the 16g.

All you need to complete this swap is:
1g Oil feed
Banjo bolt for the head oil feed
New gaskets I just bought a gasket set from O'Reillys
J-pipe
I reused the oil return from the t25 and just drilled out the holes a bit.

I spend somewhere around $85.

It probably will hit me and quick! Lol. Better be safe then sorry.

I ran two 16g's on wg pressure with no problem..Untill they blew up I had no problem..

But I would suggest getting the pump injectors and dsmlink..

I absolutely dont want it blowing up! pump and injectors it is,:thumb:. And What is dsmlink?
