Tuning with ECU +???

I just bought my 97 AWD and it has an ECU + tuning system in it. I am already not a tuning genius by any stretch so I would app any help as to how to tune this thing? My mods are in my profile.

The guy I bought the car from said he had really conservative settings (rich) and I'm not to sure where to lean it out. I put new plugs in 2 days ago and I pulled them last night just to check the gap and the are all 4 burned up. The ECU + popped a misfire code yesterday but I didn't hear or feel anything. Any help would be appreciated, I took it to RRE and Mike told me for 400 he would put it on the Dyno and tune it but I am short on funds right now. Maybe I just need to park it til I can get it on the dyno.

You might need a little bit bigger injectors for the 50trim but your motor is stock right now and you might be better off doing maintenance first, but as for tuning datalog first to see where your at, and to tell you the truth if you dont have anyone to help you tune it you are way better off paying RRE to tune it for you.

What kind of ECU does it have? like other than stock?

You just need some way to log your o2 sensor and timing to tune the car. It sounds like the car has a serious problem if it burns up plugs in two days. I recommend to tune pronto and also replace wires to fix your potential ignition problem.

You don't need a dyno to tune. You just need a county road in the country. Do 3rd gear pulls. If you are worried about going to fast for the higher rpm tuning, you may have to do 2nd gear for that (not nearly as good as 3rd gear but you can make do).

First see how your fuel trims are and tune them. Next do some pulls and see where you're at with the timing and afr. If you need help, copy and paste logs here for us to see. Remember not to log useless stuff when doing WOT pulls -- like trims. You should make sure the trims are fairly close so you can then get accurate and consistant WOT tuning done.

Since you are new to tuning, do a bunch of reading about tuning and fuel trims. Use google or yahoo to search for tuning info, as well as the tuning info here at dsmtuners. Here is one place to read: start [ECMTuning - wiki].

You either need to dedicate alot of time reading or pay a profesional tuner. I tune alot of the local peoples cars in my area usually after they give it a try and everyone of them have paid my $35/hour rate with a big smile on their face. An experienced tuner is worth alot, especially when you consider the power we gain per dollar spent.

So I guess I need to set up an appt with RRE.

Just for my knowledge... With the plugs burning up so quickly is that b/c the car is running to rich? I mean it seems to be pulling fine ( I haven't got the logs yet) and idles fine. I never would have known they were burnt if I didn't pull them out. The settings in the high RPM range is -13 and -3 in the lower range.
