Trip meter way way off

Just got a 95 eclipse gst
ive been driving it the last couple days and realized the trip meter is way off.
the odometer is fine
but driving across town today, i went like 300 miles according to trip meter(when its like 5ish miles at most)
i reset it several times to see if it would start working right.

is this somthing that can be simply fixed or is it a bigger problem?
its not really a huge deal if its not somthing simple. im a car newb pretty much so i dont really know what to do

Oof, that's weird. I'd not even guess where you'd start to try and fix it, if you could. Is it making any clicking noise or anything? Try pushing the reset lever in gently, then sliding your fingertip off the side so that it "pops" back out. Does it fully zero?

The only easy way that i can think of the fix it is go to the local junk yard and get a new gauge cluster but then your odometer will be off (not the original miles). but yes thats weird that the OD works and the trip is that far ahead.

yeah it fully zeros.
i guess i wont bother, i dont want to mess up the actual odometer. thats more important then the trip
