I just remembered they have a Mustang dyno. Car is still making some good power! Congrats again!

Yeah... It's not a dyno to go to and do some glory pulls on.

But it's a great tuning tool. I'll be curious to see what the car runs now. Of course, it'll take me a few to get the hang of it. Larger turbo = even more time lost if lift to shift!

Here's the dyno sheet for those interested. I have both the 16g one and the FP one side by side. As it is kinda neat to see what just a turbo change does. Granted, the FP Green was tuned on less octance; but I was also not shooting for the max output, either.

Taking some getting used to a bit more lag. This is really my first turbo that's larger than a stock frame one. I do miss the insta-boost. I am going to put that 16g on the other talon, though. So will have both flavors available.

Fighting electrical issues.... think the UEGO controller is going bad.

Attempted to run the car at the track. First run, tried to just roll out from idle, as a test run to see how it feels. Track proved to be too sticky, and I stalled it.

Second time: bring it up off the two-step... and SNAP! Broke the passenger side front axle right in half. So good news is that on the run which it was stalled, out, it made it though all gears beautifully and felt pretty strong. So at least the clutch issues are better.

Now that the clutch is working quite well.. finding all the remaining weak spots!

Just because you broke stuff last weeekend, Im bringing an extra t-case and axles tomorrow! haha. And just banging through the gears doesnt necessarily mean its fixed! Mine would be fine doing that, but from a dig third and fourth would slip. But I doubt a twin disk is going to spin at 450

A few updates.

Car made to the shootout and back without a single issue. Then last Thursday the car dies. It pops the big ignition 30A fuse. I manage to get the car to work on the fuse for the power windows before it blows that one. Now it would blow that ignition fuse as soon as the key gets switched to "on". No bueno!!

Trailer the car back form work and start to tear into it over the weekend. After about 16 hours, found out that the four big white wires that run from the fuse box to the battery are completely corroded and apparently causing a short. also found that there's a few other shorts the car has, but ones not bad enough to make it pop fuses.

Currently in process of getting it back together. However, I did order up some wiring harnesses from Miller Import Parts. I am going to do what I should have done years ago: strip the harness of all the things the car doesn't use and clean it up. I hate electrical with a passion, but it is something that needs to be done and have been avoiding like the plague.

Here are a few photos of the wires that were causing the issue. Honestly, I was expecting more green corrosion with how it would blow that fuse...
Also, interesting to note is that with the new wires in place, the radio works better, and the car starts quicker. The radio thing is what really gets me. I was having issues with that thing for a few years... just never really worked well. Guess it makes sense that faulty wiring would cause small issues, too! So, if your radio starts giving you some trouble, start checking out your wiring!

Right! It seems like something unrelated, but it's all connected.

So I took the car to get gas today, it made it there and back. Guess that means it's ok for the time being. Has a *tad* more vibration now due to the motor mounts.
On a side note... I missed that boost! Gosh, what a rush.

Am I reading the sheet right that you don't get full boost until like 5000rpm? Or is that just the sensor being weird.

Well, sad to report Trboblu will be put away for the winter a little earlier than expected due to either a blown head gasket or cracked head.. which I will explain.

I took the car to Michigan for auto show training. It ran awesome, and averaged 29mpg! Most of me co-workers know about the car from the interwebs, so I offered to give some little joy rides. I also had some fun with the car on woodward, and messed with the bazillion new 5.0 Mustangs that inhabit the Detroit area. ! Needless to say, she didn't have a super easy week. Broke some Mustang owners' hearts, though!

Drove home. I always watch the gauges closely, and nothing was out of place. I get home, and notice antifreeze on the ground. Grab a flashlight, and see antifreeze all over the underside of the car. It was concentrated along the bottom of the radiator. The mishimoto radiator developed a crack along the lower tank and I had no idea. So I buy another radiator. Upon draining the coolant, there wasn't much left in the car. I now had a gut feeling that the car was not going to be ok.

Install the new radiator, go through thew burping procedure. Car seems to run fine, no overheating; nothing. Figuring it was ok, drove the car down to MOD in Normal, IL. It makes it there and back without a problem. We decided to take it to the track Sunday. Pulled the plugs, and #2 looked a little off. Grab the compression checker, and its even across the board. Probably should have done a leak-down on it, but honestly, with it running fine, didn't seem to think it needed that.

Sunday we head to the track. I launch it super easy, (as a result,bogged it), and shifted it easy to a new best trap speed of 121MPH. Go to park it. Notice that it pushed quite a bit of coolant into the reservoir tank. It was also down a little. Top it off and head to the stanging lanes. This is when the car starts smoking horribly. Yup, the gut was right... car is hurt. Turn around and go back to park, pull the plugs, and there's coolant all over #2.

Moral of the story: take breaks on road trips to check out things periodically. I have a habit of driving straight though, and this time it bit me in the ass.

So now on to better things. Car will be getting the build block it needs, better axles, and some other things here and there. It had a good run. Engine was completely trouble free and took a beating for.. what? Five years now? I can't really complain. Just upset that it was something stupid that hurt it.

Sucks to hear about how it was hurt, but at least you made it to MOD and the auto show training! Gotta be excited about the built motor and better axles too for sure.


I hope to soon add my Little Eagle to the list of running/driving Kona blue talon! I've got almost all the swap parts to 2GB swap it too including the side strakes/slashes.

In for pictures of MOD. I had a good friend named Frank go up to MOD in his 1GB white Laser RS(parked directly next to the convertible 1G prototype) and said it was awesome.

CrackedDSM: MOD was a great time! I'll post photos from it over here later. Glad to hear yours is coming along nicely, too!

As a comparison between the 16g and this FP Green, car trapped (1/8th mile) 90MPH on the 16g, 95MPH on this Green. At the strip the old setup was 116/117MPH, 121MPH with the new turbo. Makes me wonder if it could have done better than a 5MPH gain up top if the engine was 100%.
