Problem is, I'm trying to get the thing apart, all the bolts are undone and off, but it only moves about 2-3" before it feels like it is stuck. Then, it won't move out any farther. The whole trans is out of the car. I pulled the motor + trans at the same time to replace the clutch while I do a 6 bolt swap. I'll try the prybar idea tomorrow. I can move it side to side, and straight out, but gets stuck about 2-3" out. The part that goes through the clutch is stuck on something. I had heard that the trans has to be completely level to let it slip out at all. Right now, the whole motor and trans is on an engine mount. The transfercase is off, and so is the hydraulic cylinder, so the clutch isn't holding pressure on the shaft anymore.

Any idea what inside the trans would be catching on it and hold it in? Spline? Locator pins?

Mind you, I've pulled the #### out of this transmission for 2 days straight, not an inch farther each time. All bolts are off as far as I know. I've tried EVERYTHING to pull this damn thing apart, and it will not budge anymore past that point. Hell, I even tried hanging the whole thing upside down (engine and trans) and pulling down on the trans... nothing.

Not exactly sure what your current setup is . . . your description is kind of vauge. But if you have the motor & trans out of the car . . . ALL of the bolts out (and yes- I DO mean all. . . not just the big ones on the top of the bellhousing. . . there's a smaller thin bolt on the back-side that you do not want to forget about . . . towards the firewall)

All I did while the motor was still hooked up to the engine hoist was press the clutch fork an that helped to get everything separted.

*I would double check to make sure you didn't miss that small bolt*

And please- for the love of all that is DSM . . . do NOT use a crow-bar to pry the tranny off

Yes, ALL bolts are off of it and I tried the clutch fork idea. I think what has happened is the pilot bearing inside has seized up, thats why its not letting me pull the shaft out.

This same problem happened when I pulled my tranny.... Exactly the same.... We actually gave up and I got back to it the next day and I was really pissed off and jiggled the hell out of the tranny ( pretty much looked like I was giving my tranny a wrap around LOL) but it came off... Just jiggle the shit out of it(violently not some little care bear jiggles either) !!! DO NOT TRY TO PRY IT OFF
Well hope this helps ya...

Hmm on the 4g63 there is one on the back side? Near the bottom? My 4g64 didnt have one down there, and I think my trans and engine are seperating. Might be missing a bolt...

Yeah, I actually forgot to take it off one time and couldn't figure out why the tranny wouldn't separate from the block . . . never again . . . :|

Will that #### up the tranny at all? I mean, I don't need to pay for this engine swap and THEN pay for a new trans/rebuild...
