I have a 97 eclipse Spyder with 170k miles. I was driving it last night and after I pulled away from the stop sign in 1st gear it kicked out of gear. So I pushed in the clutch, put it back into 1st and it wouldn't feel like it would ( catch) the gear. I can push the stick into gear fully, but when it is in gear it just feels like it is in neutral. So I pulled into a local wendys. On level ground I tried to find a gear. I put it into 1st again and let out on the clutch. Nothing. It will sit there with the engine running in first gear and not move even when I let out on the clutch. So I tried 2nd. then 3rd. When i put it into reverse the reverse lights do come on, but once again it won't move. No, my E-brake isn't on either. Everyone knows you put a car into gear let out on the clutch and not give it gas it will stall out. This car won't do that. It just idles....even in any gear. I'm not a transmission man so any information would be a great help because transmissions can get expensive. :banghead:

Have you checked the shifter cables? There are 4 clips total that hold it in. Two under the the console and two under the hood. Also, check the master and slave cyl. Maybe you have a leak and lost all your fluid.

I'm not really familiar with dsm manual transmissions but it almost sounds to me like a shift cable needs adjusted. Get someone to shift while you look under the hood and see if it's fully moving the shift levers on the tranny.

Edit: As stated above it could also be the clutch.

My friend said a bit ago it might be the cable. Ill take a look. Thank you guys very much for a better idea of my problem. Helps a ton.

Sounds to me like its more than just the clutch could be cables could even be a broken cv like me. LOL if you put it in 2nd or 3rd does the speedo move?
