Does anybody have a number i can call to see if my cars had the recall done?thanks.

Looks like Mitsubishi is gonna have their way with me. They said the recall is only issued up to May '98. Because my car is a 99 they will not cover it under the safety recall, and because my car has a salvage title due to a small hit to the right front (total repair costs were about $1500, i have no idea how this thing was given a salvage title) they will also not cover it under the 50,000 mile drivetrain warranty.

Looks like I just got screwed. Ill be dishin out about $1200 in the very near future. If anyone has any suggestions or advice please voice them.

hello people. i bought a 95 tsi talon recently, and it had a noise. it seemed to be a bearing noise, kindof a scrubbing noise, not a gear whine. the noise seemed pretty unsubstantial, so i continued to drive the car. shortly after, about 800 miles actually, the car developed a NEW gear whine noise. it has become pretty pronounced so i took it in to make sure it wasnt the t-case. this is where it starts to get tricky. it turns out that the t-case WAS/IS leaking and that it was low on fluid. the problem is, there is a special tool provided to dealers that checks the oil level in the t-case, but the mechanic didnt use it...( i watched the entire time). all he did was clean the t-case, snug down some of the bolts on it where it was leaking, and proceeded to refill it. i told him that i wanted to drain it and look at the oil to see if there were any signs of damage. he was reluctant, but agreed to do so. there was a few small chunks of metal and the oil was saturated with small flakes of metal(maybe glitter sized). i see this as abnormal wear caused by low oil levels anyone agree? well. the dealer refilled the t-case, and took the car fo a test drive. the mechanic admitted to one of the managers that there was noise, but he said he had no experience with the cars and could not say whether it was normal or not. i KNOW that it is not normal as it only started it recently. shouldnt i get a replacement t-case as the unit was low on oil and shows signs of abnormal wear? and there is a gear whine to boot? i feel a reaming coming on, and i dont want to let this dealer screw me. the noise is loud and nasty enough for me to worry about my wife driving it due to the infamous LOCKING rear wheels. i told the dealer that if they did not replace the t-case that i wanted it written on the work order that i saw the unit as a timebomb that had obvious signs of wear and emminent failure. that way once it locks up and kills either me or my spouse(or an innocent bystander for that matter) ill have some documentation that will possibly help in court. any advice guys/gals? sorry this is so long...

thanks alot,
Adam

I beleive, if you look closely on this site, you will see a sticky post having to do with the transfer case recall issue and how to handle it.

if u bought the car at a dealer go in there and make em fix it, its a hazard in face print out a few posting or have a decent dsm mechanic vough fo ru in court that it is a hazard and could endanger u or your wife, go after the bastard dealers with a vengence, they suck massive amount of ass, and u bought the car it shoudl still but under some warentee either origional or at freakin a small dealer warentee. MAKE THEM REPLACE IT AND GIVE U 200 credit for you trouble, serious, get after em

i bought the car used from the original owner. i seriously agree with you that this is a safety hazard. the fact that the mechanic found metal shavings in the t-case oil should be enough on its own to warrant a new one. im supposed to go back to the dealer tomorrow and let the manager of the service dept. ride in the car to determine whether or not the noise is normal. im afraid that they will say that it is normal as the recall sheet says: "ignore normal gear noise, such as high pitched whining" it is high pitched whining, but it is pretty loud! you can usually hear it over the radio. oh well. wish me luck...

thanks,
AC

I just wanted to let everyone know that I just had a great experience with the dealership and my recall for my transfer case for my 96 AWD.

I called them yesterday and explained that my TC was leaking again, they told me the recall was done in 98 and they couldnt help me. So I took it a step farther and called the recall hotline. The lady there told me to call and ask for the service manager and tell him I want to have my my car "reinspected for recall 078 the transfer case" So I did just that, I called the manager left him a message stating that I contacted the people above him, made a claim with them telling them you were not being cooperative ect ect. He called me back with in 2 mins. Told me how abou 8am tomorrow...Here it is 930am today, Im back. They took my car in right away, the service manger ONLY drove it. They put blocks down for it to get on the lift, and he came out and took me back to watch the WHOLE thing. They inspected the TC and said the "yolk is leaking." Therefore needing a new one. He ordered the part and has me in NEXT TUESDAY for the install.

I have to say the second I went a step above the dealership, everyone jumped. It was the smartest thing I did. If I could tell you guys any advice...it is this.....Deal with ONLY the service manager, and if that doest work, call the recall hotline, and if that doest work take it a step farther and ask for the corp. number and talk to someone that gets shit done.....Goodluck you all......

I'm glad you were able to get that fixed. I've been trying to tell people that the dealership does not have the final say in alot of things. Recalls are some of the biggest things that there should be absolutely no questions asked about the replacement of a failing part regardless of the history of recall repair on the car. I only wish more people would take it to the next level to get this matter addressed.

i tried that it didnt work. i called the corperate office and they sent the d.m. to look at my car. he said to refuse all work to my car because it was altered(the only thing changed is custome exhaust). long story short i got screwed over, i had to fix it myself.

I posted a thread about what happened to my car and i just saw this treard and figured it wouldn't hurt to post on here. In short the dealer is saying they wont replace my Xfer case that they installed about 8 months ago becouse my car had a broken rear axel about 2 months ago. and said they wont even look to see if that is the problem becouse they can not get parts for the car

I have a 95 GSX and the tranfer case is locked up and makes a horrible whining noise when I drove it and I was trying to see if there is a recal on them so i can get my car fixed.

MODIFICATIONS DO NOT HAVE AN EFFECT ON SAFETY RECALLS. Call the NTSB and tell them what is happening. As well say your lawyer has been contacted and will be filling a motion in small claims court within the week.

While I won't tell you you're wrong, I will point you to the new sticky in the Hangout. You will find my post about the warranty being voided (just like it's always been) from modifying a vehicle and/or using it for purposes other than what the warranty covers i.e.: racing, modifying, abusing, neglecting, and so on. In otherwords... I would get alot more information about the recall before assuming changes to your car won't void warranty and manufacturer liabilities.

Regardless of who pays for it and who doesn't, I really don't care to argue the point.

These prices are subject to local dealer pricing and are only rough estimates (our retail prices at work). They are also through a Chrysler Dealer and NOT a mitsu, though the prices and part numbers should not be that far off.

Vehicle application:
Yoke package for ALL AWD TALONS
P/N CCFE7801 List Price: Not listed. This is subject to individual dealer pricing as this part is primarily used in conjuction with a recall repair only and not normally sold over the counter.

1990 Manual transmission Transfer Case
P/N MD743709 List price: $2,000

1991-1996 Manual Transmission Transfer Case
P/N MD758205 List Price: $2,000

1991-1996 Automatic Transmission Transfer Case
P/N MD758203 List Price: $2,000

1997-1998 Manual Transmission Transfer Case
P/N MD748594 List Price: $2,250.00

1997-1998 Automatic Transmission Transfer Case
P/N MD748595 List Price $2,350.00

The transfer case reseal kit is as follows:
All require these parts:
Drain plug gasket MD000312 List Price: $2.00
Fill Plug Gasket MF660036 List Price: $1.50
Output Shaft Oil Seal MD701430 List Price: $6.50
Gear Case O-Ring MF520414 List Price: $2.75
Front Case Driveshaft Cover O-Ring: MD727944 List Price: $2.50

You will also need these parts:
Input Shaft Oil Seal
-Manual P/N MD723202 List Price: $5.25
-Automatic P/N MD731793 List Price: $5.25

Case Upper Cover Gasket
-1990 P/N MD736349 List Price: $1.25
-1991-1998 P/N MD752981 List Price: $1.50

So there ya have it. As you can see the repair of a transfer case is much cheaper than it's entire replacement. However, the amount of labor involved will go up considerably.

Ok, I'm getting the recall done and they DO need to service the transfer case. The dealership says that my universal joint is leaking and I need to replace that. Isn't this covered under the same recall under section B "Driveshaft yoke, Input shaft oil seal, outputshaft oil seal and/or transfer case replacement"....it looks to me that the universal joint is part of the recall as well. Am I wrong? Sure it depends on what they have to replace with the transfercase, but I'm betting that they're gonna try to get me to pay for it. They are waiting for the u-joint parts which will be in Wednesday. Thanks

The u-joint is not a covered component under the recall. The yoke and seal are replaced due to the leakage, a failing u-joint is not the reason the recall came out. However, the u-joint has to be removed for the yoke replacement so you may want to see if just paying for the part and them absorbing the labor since it's nearly all over-lapping with the recall.

this is a bunch a bull. I called my local dealer, they say its already been done. I call chrysler (B!TCHES), they say its all up to the dealer weather or not to do it again for free. I call Mitsu, they say call chrysler. I call NTHSA (or wuteva), they say call chrysler. I just want this fixed. I thought it was free?

my full story over at DSMTalk
But this is the shortened version. basically Ive had the dealer, The district manager and chrysler customer service tell me the recall has been done so the case is closed. these people wont even listen. im going to call the chrysler Number (listed here) tomarrow and see what they say. but they are jerking me around hard core. and on top of that the "Master Tech" at the dealership was driving my car around without a T case and trying to convince me my clutch was slippingOMG Im pissed im worried i might finnaly some day get the recall done but have the LSD in the trans blown out or something. i dont know what to do. if anyone has any easy answers for me that would be awesome, other wise here is maybe some more info for people in this o so shitty situation. thanks Erik
