So heres the deal. A few weeks ago i noticed oil dripping under my 97 gsx. When i found out it was the transfer case, it was bone dry. the bearings were bad and there was spline movement. After looking day and night on forums, i saw the recall deal. Many calls to mitsubishi, the dealer, and nhtsa, i am still told i cannot get the recall. Aparently my VIN doesnt match so they claim it was never affected. Whats all this "lifetime safety" recall about all awd dsms being eligible for the recall? How come im not able to get it?

i have same issue too. i brought it to a dealership. they looked at it and said it didnt qaulify for the recall. and that was that. BS IMO

yeah they will do anything to get away from doing the recall, they'll blame it on you for letting it leak till it was bone dry. Get a built transfer case if you can, or find one cheap. Make sure to keep your fluids topped off.

My car had the recall done when it was first announced, then after a slow leak it locked up and took out my transmission as well. Tried to get it taken care of via the recall, but after the cost of a flatbed ride there and an hour of inspection (if it didn't qualify for the recall replacement), I found it was just easier to replace it myself with a used one.

That one eventually began leaking, so I just picked up a new one from Jack's Transmissions since I didn't feel right about having the dealer do it again. Car is in storage now so I haven't driven on it, but it looked all nice and shiny!

I stopped at the local dodge dealler to see if they would do my Mitsu. but they wouldnt, but gave me the number of a Mitsu dealer, and they were familiar with the recall and said that there are some parts no longer available or the transfer case has been dicontinued. I will probably just do it myself.

i think im gonna go to jacks transmissions ### there cheap but in good condition
