All transfer case recall threads are merged here.

Does anybody have a number i can call to see if my cars had the recall done?thanks.

So I took my car to the dealer and they said they would do it but my car is too low so they can't.. when I suggested driving it onto blocks over the lift they said they didn't have any wood.. or anything they could use... yeah.. right.

Anyway.. I see people talking about ordering parts to rebuild their yoke, why not just do this:

I saw somewhere too using JB weld instead of RTV, I guess it's not as messy.

I just picked this 92 AWD Turbo w/ 82000mi and the T case was toast:notgood:

I took it to my local Mech and he replaced it under some kind of warranty:thumb:

I just wanted to post this asap so if any1 needs one for AWD you should check into this

They Replace them for Free. -labor

Sorry if ya already know this.

It doesnt have to be done at a Mitsu dealership, the mechanic, or other dealership that did it just has to call up Mitsu, and they [Mitsu] will remburse the costs. Also if a dealership denies you this recall, dont worry about it. Go straight to Mitsu [the corperation], and complain. Tell them you've owned Mitsu's all your life, and you love them, but if this is how your treated, then you will bring your buisness of a new car else where. They will generally make the dealership do it, because on average if someone buys a new car, and does all the required maintenance with the dealership [for the lifetime of the vehicle] the cost totals up to over $300,000.

Ok mine is leaking. But it dosnt make any noises or anything but the output yoke has excessive play. Would this get me a new T-case?

More than likely it will get you a new yoke and seal. I think the T-case has to lock up before they'll replace it.

All you gotta do is right before you take it in is drain all the fluid out of it. When you go in there tell them you have notice oil spots on ## driveway, and there is an abnormal noise coming from it. You should get a brand new one.

I have a tranfer leak and found this thread. After reading I went to the dealer for the recall. At first they gave me the bullshit that it has been done but in my case I didn't take that crap.
I asked them when was the car first sold and they told me in November of 1997. Than I asked them when was the recall done and they told me August 1998.
It was done 9 months after it was first sold? So I told them that its a lifetime recall which means as long as the car is operating it has to be done. That I am entitled to that. Than I asked to speak to the service manager.
After much stroking without getting mad they told me ok. They called up Chrysler Corp. and and they told me that they will do the recall. I was asking them to change my seal.
So I was happy. They told me that they would call me the next morning.

So Today I got the call in the morning and they told me to come with the car next week because that is when the part would arrive.
So I asked them what was the part ordered and they told me the WHOLE TRANSFER CASE They are giving me a brand new Transfer case installed for FREE!

My current Transfer case has almost 145,000 miles!!!! This is the first time it has leaked.

I want to thank everyone that has responded with their ideas and their experiences. It has given me ideas on how to "Stroke" them. Most of the shop guys/managers at the dealers do not know that the recall is only a temporary fix so they automatically think it should only be performed once. They told me that they have not serviced a Talon in almost 15 years. :talon:

Congratulations my friend! Good work on sticking to your guns about the "lifetime recall". Mitsu really needs a stern kick to the a** regarding this issue, since they're only performing a temp patch job to the issue, and not fixing it.

OK what if my transfer case already locked up and I already replaced it personally, can i bring the old one to the dealership and get the cost of the new one reimbersed to me? I was originally told when I got the car that the recall was already done by a dealer who looked up my VIN, so I didn't know that I could have brought it back there...

Archimetes: I'd say if you already locked it up and replaced it than tough luck because you can't prove why it broke.

I also just got all the seals replaced on mine last week. I took it to the Chrysler dealer first and they said that they didn't have the transmission tech anymore who knew how to work on Talons, but otherwise they would have done it. Then I took it to Mitsubishi and they flat out refused to do anything to it because it was a Talon.

Finally I took it to the Eagle dealer, and after much ado with the service manager in which I told him that they were still required to do it even though it had been done already, and that they would be liable for me if it locked up and caused me to crash, they decided to just replace all the seals for me. It also helped that I had the actual recall service route printed out in my hand to show them where it said that they had to do it.

Yeah!

Hey guys my transfer case is leaking fluid and when i drained the fluid a couple days i found nothing but silver color fluid with some metel shavings. I just bought this transfer case about 6 months ago from a friend for 275$ The origanl transfer case i still have but had to take it out cause the bearings were all messed up.

Do you think its worth me trying to do a transfer case recall or should i just start saving up money for anouther one? (Will be the 3rd one in a year)!!

I still have the transfer case for thenm to look at as for why it locked up. And at that it would be the same shop that told me the car was fine and "the recall has already been done on this car" 3 days before it locked up... I'm probably gonna try and go down there anyway. Even if they just reimburse me for the tow charge i'd be happy.
