Does anybody have a number i can call to see if my cars had the recall done?thanks.

this is a very good thread... my guestion is the recall says all chrystler/eagle cars. does the mitsubishi gsx fall into this also?

How about this. I took my '91 AWD into the dealer and had the recall completed, with some fuss. Then, about a month later I was driving down the highway and white smoke started pouring out the back of my car. I pulled over and discovered it coming from the trans/transfer area. I checked below and found the transfer case leaking like crazy. Luckily a friend was in the area. I filled it on the spot and continued home, which was still another two hours away. It seemed ok, but about half way back, more smoke. I pulled over and proceeded to fill it again, and the fluid could be seen pouring out the rear of the T-case. I had no choice but to drive it home. (I was leaving for overseas) It whined the whole way back and when I pulled to the stoplight in front of my garage, it would not move. I could release the clutch all the way out, and no motion. I ended up pushing it into my garage and there it sits till I return to fix it. I will have some strong words for the dealership that did this.

Hey guys, Im about to buy an AWD TSI 93 and the tranfer case is blown on it, the guy told me he was doing 120km/h and all of a sudden the 4 wheels block and he started skiddind like a mofo. My question is will the dealer replace it even if the T-case Is broken. Also in that incident the rear diff broke to so do you think they should replace the T-Case and diff since the t-case cause the diff to break??? Also the guy don't know bout the recall so i guess he never had it replaced?what u think

I just purchased a '92 Plymouth Laser AWD, wanted to get the transfer case checked out. I think mine is leaking as well. Who do I need to take it to? Can I just take it to any Chrysler dealer and they'll take care of it for me?

I just went through this thread and couldn't find any mention of this.

Thanks,
Mike

Given the shit they've given me about my 1997 USDM transfer case, I highly, highly doubt that they'll cover a Japanese Galant transfer case.

Guys that just posted recently, look over this entire thread, its has TONS of info and who to call for your recall information. Contact your local dealership, then if need be a step higher, call mitsu/chry corp. offices. If you look over the 4 pages of info, you will find all you need to know....Good thread guys

Ummm.... sorry for bringing this topic back up..... But today when I was looking under my car... I noticed a leak from the transfercase... not one, not two, not three but four different places it was leaking from all from the TC... I hope to got that they put a new one on there when I go for the Recall... has anyone else experience all these leaks at once??? Thanks.. Mike

i have a 92 Eagle tsi awd...i blew my 1st transfer case and it was replaced with one from a 96, would i still be intitled to have the recall done..seeing i have no clue if it was done on the 96's transfer case. if they pull my vin it will show all recalls have been preformed on the car.

Since I have a talon, can I get this recall done at a mitsu dealership or do I have to find a chrysler/dodge dealership?

Thanks

Mitsu. replaced my t-case for free 7 months ago. A week ago it was totally smoked and screaming like a banshee. So they ordered me another one, arriving today. Any ideas why the new one only lasted me 7 months? The car was a street/stock vehicle (not driven hard).

I was recently checking my tcase and it's leaking. I need to take it back to the dealer for the recall, but I have the JDM GVR4 engine & tranny (actual car is a 93 TSi AWD). Will this cause any problems with the dealer? What can I expect from them?

Thanks in advance

Hey man, Im not to sure. I recently blew my transfer case after about 4000 miles after they said they fixed it on recall. Turns out they just looked at it and said it wasn't leaking. I took it back to them awhile ago when my mechanic noticed the leak and they said that because my car was modified it voids any responsibility that they have. My guess is that they will probably not pay for it.

What do you have done to your car? I don't really have much done at all, or at least nothing that would void the tcase recall. Plus, the transfer case itself is almost exactly the same thing as my stock tcase. Good opinion though, I need to know what to expect :thumb:

I pretty much just have a 50 trim turbo and custom intake. The rest was waiting to be installed come spring (I ran out of time b4 winter). My experience so far has been crap. When I first found the leak I talked to the dealership and they said that as the recall had already been done, they could not fix it again. I then installed the turbo, and that crap, and was planning on fixing the transfer case prob. myself when I had a free weekend. My transfer case locked up after not too long, and I started reading about the recall stuff on here, to figure out if I needed to pay for it. I took the car to the dealership and they said that they asked the service area rep. from chrystler and then took it to the service manager for my country (canada) and they both said they would not do it because the car was modified. I said that I had brought the problem to their attention before modifications and they pretty much won't talk to me. Both the service manager at the dealership, and chrystler canada service representatives are refusing to talk to me, so I called them today and said if they do not speak to me then I will pursue legal action. This was this morning and they haven't called me back yet.
So in otherwords.... Good %&^ing luck!

modified or not they have to service it...do a couple searches cause i know there was a post sometime ago that had a number to call if the dealership gives you any problems.

Yeah, I called the Chrysler number and spoke to a rep there, gave them my vin#, and they informed me that there was an outstanding recall that was not yet done; that happened to be the transfer case recall. It hasn't been done, but I wonder if they can really tell the difference between the two transfer case. The only visual difference is the 2WD->4WD marking. I don't see why they should have a problem, but I always try to expect the worst and hope for the best :thumb:

I appreciate the replies, guys, thanks ;)

Does anyone know the # to call if the dealer refuese to fix it?

I did the online check and it told me that my x-fer had already been serviced. I will keep calling and harassing them.

Technically, they will only change the transfer case it if it shows signs of wear. They will only change the yoke and whatnot if that's just leaking. If there are no need for repairs, they won't perform any. These items, however, are warrantied for the life of the car.

You can call one of these numbers and speak to one of their reps who are -usually- pretty helpful.

Diamler Chrysler: 1(800)992-1997
Mitsubishi Motors: 1(800)222-0037

Hope this helps a little.

I have heard from many people that because it is a safety recall it HAS to be done even if it has already been fixed before. I have also heard that it doesn't matter if the car is modified. My question is, does any one know where I can get the legal documentation that says this. I mean, I need something to PROVE to the dealership that Im right, as diamler chrystler canada has been less then useless.

Would a dealer work on a car that technically is not smog-legal even though it has been smogged because I know for a fact that my transfer case is leaking. This is because when I pulled my old exhaust off there was MASSIVE residue on the stock downpipe and I noticed it dripping/spraying on my new downpipe. However since I have no cats I was worrying that they would not work on it. Any info would be appreciated.

Typically a repair shop won't call the cops or DMV on a vehicle that will not pass inspection for one reason or another. If you ask them to do something illegal then that's a different story.

One thing to keep in mind though is that if you have any components that are installed on the car that were NOT on there from the factory then you may be subject to pay for that component to be removed prior to any recall related repairs. The downpipe and exhaust must be removed for t-case remplacement. So the labor to remove that is covered by the recall.

What is NOT covered is any gasket, from an after-market exhaust, that may fall to pieces when the exhaust is removed. As listed back a few posts you can see that NO exhaust gaskets have been included with any of the repair packages. On a stock vehicle you may get some assistance in the replacement of components that fall apart or finally break when a recall is performed but they are generally not a covered item.

I just posted about this in "satan has my baby" post, but i thought i would add it here. The dealer just called me after having my car sence christmas eve. they mixed up the info on friday, and just now got to it again, and the dang thing locked up on them, So they are ordering new T-Case. I called Diamond Star Chrysler to get this apointment set up, and now im glad i did. Thanks for all the Dsm'ers that posted the info here. :thumb: :talon:

Please make sure they order the yoke/sleeve/seal as well, not just the transfer case. THAT is covered under the recall.
