transfer case questions

i recently rebuilt my motor and the car won't start, so i started testing things out, like cranking the motor with a ratchet. the motor was hard to crank but still cranked and i thought it was my transmisson. so i took the transmission off and everything was fine and the motor was cranking easyly with the tranny off. then i but the tranny on and the transfer case and tried cranking the motor again and it was really hard this time. next i just took the transfer case off and tried cranking the motor and it was cranking fine

I'm not sure how to begin a reply... but did you check the usual things?

1. Compression test
2. Spark
3. Fuel
4. Injectors

I don't know what you mean by this. What is "hard"? It should be hard to turn with a ratchet if all the plugs are in it.

Unless you have some major fubared stuff happening with the clutch/flywheel/pressure plate (it is a 5 spd right? You need to fill out your profile)... I don't see how the tranny/transfer case could cause that if you were in neutral or had the clutch in. Maybe if the motor was seized to the drivetrain somehow WTF .

What made you think it was the transmission just because it is hard to crank and won't start?

Does the car lurch when you turn the key?
Does it crank but just not fire?
Is the starter engaging the flywheel?

You said you just rebuilt the motor. Did you check, recheck, and then recheck again everything when you reassembled it?

We need a lot more information and details.

im sorry i have a 5 speed. the car doesn't start and the only thing that happens when i turn the key is hearing the starter trying to crank the flywheel. i tripled check the timing and eveything is lined up right
