transfer case leaking

Hello I have posted on here thinking my tranny is leaking case my bell housing is coated in oil but I kept pulling my transmission and no oil was missing. So I drained my transfer case and there was barley 100milliliters in there there is supposed to be about 500 because .5 quarts is roughly 500 milliliters. So needless to says its my transfercase leaking. Do I just pull the transfer case and change the seal on the transfer case that connects to the transmission? Is it that easy? If not how is it done?

yes it's that easy. If you haven't ready about it the yoke on the driveshaft are also known to be bad and there was an old recall involving this part. It has long since expired but if you have a problem with this yoke it is still available.

Paul is right! I just did mine and its just 5 bolts and 2 seals to replace on the transfer. Since I was down there I also replaced axle seal and driveshaft yoke, not hard at all, good luck.

Only one of mine is leaking. So I just drop the transfer case and but the new seal in.

Yes drop the transfer case, remove the seal and install new one, I found that the best way to install seals without damage is using a roll of tape of whatever size fits the best, it's hard enough to drive the seal in and soft to not cause any damage. You might have to remove your exhaust or at least move it aside. Again since you're down there, take a look at the other seals or just replace them and have peace of mind.

Well I'm screwed it's the transfer case I dropped that and put dye in my tranny just to check all the other seals and it's seems to be the input seal it's leaking from the deep in the bell housing I can follow the line with the black light till it disappears behind the pressure plate. Any ideas on how to fix that cheaply I know it's taking the whole tranny apart.

No it isn't. Dont assume what you don't know. That seal is toughnto grt to but it is external. Ive done it with trans in place. Much easier if trans is out of the car. Do yourself a favor and buy two or three seals. One extra and one for the tcase input as its the same seal. This is an afternoon job. Don't freak out.

Yeah I found out its the trans right now and the input shaft not the output. The input is the one inside the transmission the goes into the clutch assembly. The output is the one that goes to the transfer case correct?

Yes that is correct and if its the input shaft for the clutch then yes its inside and requires full disassembly. If you have any mechanical skills id say fix it. I didnt learn because somebody taught me. I learned because I had to.

Thats kinda the situation I'm in have you ever dissambled the transmission and if so what would you recommend?

I did one yesterday. Its not terribly difficult but it is specialized and tedious. Whats your skill set? Whats the biggest job youve done.

I feel like it would take me awhile to do it I'm the kind of person that learns better by seeing things happen it would take me forever to do it and I need my car. How much do you charge for them if you do it??
