trans fluid leak

Hey guys i have a trans fluid leak out of the torque convertor seal. i installed a new seal before i installed the trans. the sealing surface on the convertor was also lubed before installing it. here's my question. is there a possibility that the pump bushing could be shot?

i noticed when i did the auto swap the dowel pins were shoved all of the way in the bellhousing. i'm thinking the previous misalignment may have caused some damage . when i put the trans in i put in new alignment dowels. but i'm wondering if the pump is on it's way out. thanks in advance for any input.

I see that you're talking about an "auto swap". Was this a 5 speed car that you converted to auto?

If so, then I'm betting that you didn't install the crankshaft bushing. With out it the torque convertor will not be centered or supported and will destroy the pump bushing. I don't have the part number handy, but they are still readily available from Mitsubishi.

Correct it was a 5 speed car . and yes it has the crank bushing in the end of the crank.

Unfortunately the pump bushing IS most likely shot. The only way to really find out is to pull the transmission and remove/disassemble the pump to figure it out. At that point, though, you'll be replacing all of the gaskets, seals, orings anyway. Be sure to check your t/c for leaks too. I've seen many of them leak from the welds and also from around the pad areas from stress cracks.
