I had this problem since the end of last year. I was told it could be the "breather'' so checked that out and it was find. So I thought that maybe my cheap cooler wasnt good enough so I got a 28,000 gvw trucool cooler and removed my a/c condensor and put it there. Well last night i took it out and drove around slowly for about 6-7 miles and no problem. I let it sit for a few minutes then took it out and drove a little faster(50-60mph) and pulled over and trans fluid all over the trans. It looked like it was coming out of the trans dipstick. Any suggestion to what my problem could be before I spend a butt load at a shop?
trans= 6 bolt kiggly kit conversion, 3500 stall, shift kit, alto clutches.

Any input would be great! Thanks.

Cooler lines love to leak at the top of the trans. Check those first. Clean it up real good and you should be able to see if they are getting wet with it idling.

Thats what i did when i first start it up. I let it idle for a while, fixed a coolent leak, and took it for a ride at low speed and checked it every few miles and no leaking that i could see. Then when I took it onto a highway going about 50-60 for a few miles and pulled over and checked is when the trans was covered in fluid.
Could it be that more pressure at higher speeds causing a hose to leak? Can it be something cloged internally?

Next thing - is it overfilled? Cycle it through the gears then check it in neutral while it is running and on a flat surface.

If it is overfilled, the fluid will splash into the rotating parts and foam up, especially at high rpm. It will increase volume due to the entrained air and can push out the dipstick or breather.

I will check that. I did lose a lot of fluid when i was putting on the cooler and didnt put anymore in. Thanks for the input I will try that when i have time.
Lets say that the fluid is perfectly filled. Can it be any internal parts not functioning properly?
Thanks for the fast replies!

EDIT: to add to this, last year this happened and the trans started overheating. If there was to much fluid and it came out, why would it overheat. Thanks again.

Mine did the same thing and was overfull. I Filled mine as the instructions with my shift kit said and that's when it started to overheat and shoot out the dipstick tube so i drained it and filled it like normal and it's ok now.

Windage. When the fluid gets up into the rotating mechanism, it gets beat to death and heats up. It also gets a bunch of air in the fluid, so it doesn't lubricate the gears properly or keep the converter full. Both of those things also create more heat.

Overfilling it is just as bad as underfilling it.

Thanks so much for all of your guy's post. Its going into the shop that built my trans on Friday and he is going to flush it and refill it. I will keep you guys posted to let you know how it goes.

Update: Took my car to the trans shop that built mine. Cleaned it off and checked fluid and even listened to the trans and said everything is fine. Took it for a ride and got back with trans fluid all over the trans again. It is coming up the dipstick tube for sure. He said that this has happen before with a friend of his and said he will call him on monday. He also said that it can be the trans breather. The only trans breather that I know of is the one on top of the transfer case. Would that have anything to do with my problem or is there another trans breather somewhere else?

UPDATE: Saturday night I was working on it and figured out there was way to much fluid in it. I decided to drain the fluid and well over 5 quarts came out. Refilled it to specs and now it runs find and the temp gauge out of no where started working(I thought I had wiring issues but might of had something to do with to much fluid.) Runs nice at about 150 to 160 degrees during regular operation and shifts like a dream. Took it to a car show sunday morning and won first place. :thumb: You guys were 100% correct. Thanks both kiggly and 92eagletsi.
