hey guys i have had my dsm as a project for the last 3 years now and this past fall i was finally able to get her up and running. engine ran great (untill i spun 2 rod bearings in november) but one thing i noticed was after i drove for a while and then parked it would leak tranny fluid (its a 5 speed). now that the engine and tranny are out of the car again i would like to get to the bottom of this.
has anyone else had this problem?
could it be the input shaft seal is bad?

i have looked through the forums but couldnt find anything on this. thanx for any help guys!

You should be more specific on where the oil is leaking (picture would be best). It could be cracked housing, insufficient gasket glue between mating surface, bad oil seal or ton of other possibility. If the input shaft seal is bad, there would be oily stain around the clutch fork opening of the bell housing..

i will get pix up as soon as i can. im up at school right now and the car is home but i dont think it was engine oil it was more black like the tranny fluid. but the inside of the bell housing has a good amount of oil sprayed all around it and a little bit in the bottom of the housing when i took it out of the car. also there was no sign of oil around the rear seal on the engine.
would it be tough to change the input seal on the tranny?

i have experiance with this before jus so everyone knows im not a total newb. im rebuilding the motor right now and i have rebuilt a hydrostatic transmission in a tractor but i dont want to replace something with out knowing its whats wrong for sure ### its kind of a PITA to pull the tranny back out if its still leaking.

also its not a huge puddle like its pouring out just a small puddle the size of a half dollar. and you can see its comming out of the bell housing

I say get it sorted out.. small leak can lead to a big leak later.

I have a similar problem after i did my atx to mtx swap, it is still leaking a bit but i am swapping in a neon trans in there next week to fix problem. I could see couple of drops coming between the bell housing and the trans it was pretty obvious that the sealant was no longer there.

out of bell housing the only thing it could be is the input shaft in the tranny, its only going to get worse. looks like you need a new tranny. There is nothing else to leak out of the bell housing, i had that problem before. uggg, luckily to replace it took a few hours.

aww i didnt wanna hear this haha. but thanx for all the info guys! there really isnt a seal or bearing that i could replace if i took the bell housing off? would the stealership be able to bring up an exploded view of the tranny? its the nvt-350 stock tranny.

thanx guys
