Well my sister recently bought a 97 nt eclipse. It dont shift into any gear but 1st. Its automatic and once it tries to shift the tranny goes completly out, wont even go back into 1st. I have to turn car off and start it again inorder to get 1st back. Im not thrilled to have towork on this car. If its not the TCM(TCM) what else can cause this?

Not a fan of the automatic... But perhaps something inside the tranny broke off and lodged in the shift mechanism...? New tranny? :p

Yeah I hate automatics. I did buy her a good used tranny but was hoping I didn't have to drop it.

sounds like a internal hydraulic problem in the trans, ### once u turn the car off and the pressure is down, it works until it shifts again.
