so I read a little on what kind of tranny oil i should use... So I just bought 3 bottles Royal Purple 75w-90 and I guess I will be only using 2.5l of that

but what about the transfer case? Do i need another kind of oil for that? where do I fill it up at? and how much?:confused:

thanks...

the tranny has no oil in it right now, it was take out to replace the seals...

No stick with the royal purple way better than OEM fluids. My whole driveline is filled with Royal Purple and let me tell you it is night and day difference from the OEM fluid that was in there. It shifts like a brand new car, and have not had one grind since the fluid change. Also Royal Purple is dyno proven to create more horsepower.

but how much is oem fluid? compared to synthetic?

I want to say it was around $60 to change all the driveline fluids in my AWD with Royal Purple, but not 100% sure that was like a year ago.. As for OEM call up your local dealership.

Iam gonna go price out changing my tranny fluid (its grinding and very notchy to put into gears) I guess its last thing before breaking down and spendin 150 on oem shifter cables :( i hate my dealer daytona beach ftl

Strait from Jack's Transmissions website:

"DO NOT use Synchromesh, BG Synchroshift I or II, or Royal Purple. These fluids will destroy synchros and gears and void your warranty!"

Strait from TRE:

"While it has been found that the Synchromesh/Synchroshift type oils can sometimes improve the effectiveness of the synchronizers, allowing for faster shifts at higher rpms, this oil does not have enough film strength to ensure the longest gear and bearing for the Mitsubishi transmissions that lives behind a high torque engine. Synchromesh/shift type oils are used in transmissions that are found in low torque applications that don't ask much from the oil in regards of film strength. If you have a weak synchro, you may want to try the "Synchromesh /shift" type oils. However, it is our recommendation that you use the proper GL rating that the transmission was designed to use. Check your owner's manual for this information."

Strait from Shep Trans:

"There are several gear oils that will work depending on horsepower or intended use. For most transmissions we recommend Redline mt 90 or Pennzoil Synchromesh. For drag use or high horsepower cars please contact us. Please let us know if you need any Redline gear oil."

Looks like Shepherd is the only one that recommends a syncromesh type fluid. Then again he doesn't specify any others than Pennzoil

Do what you will but at least I know I don't run Syncromesh...

I put Redline MT-90 in my tranny after draining the stock oil .. complete difference. I just to have sticky and heavy notchy shifting (DSM trannies are somewhat of a notchy shifting tranny anywhos..). Redline took care of this and now shifts real smooth.

And:
"Owners of Diamond Star Motors (DSM) Eclipse, Talon, and Laser cars with MMC (Mitsubishi Motor Corporation) transaxles have reported positive experiences using Synchromesh. The same can be said for owners of the Mitsubishi 3000GT and Dodge Stealth cars with the Getrag-manufactured AWD transaxles. The main benefit to DSM and 3/S owners seems to be excellent synchronizer performance, with reduced grinding and easier shifting compared to using some other gear oils. "
Stealth 316 - Pennzoil Synchromesh Fluid

I've been using it for ten years, and seventy-thousand miles.

dont use anything that does not have a seal of approval, these are testing guidelines that make sure what your buying has been tested and proven performance long -haul
And what category it should go under. gl-4 or something i think. If it does not meet or exceed the guidelines for your car..don't get it.. just a bad idea.

royal purple is made by lucas. the same people who made oil additives and oil that surpass all other oil for film or viscosity. So far lucas does not have nano-oils or synthetic oils. 100% petrol as advertised..And has demonstration units at stores usually that give a good example of this film in action. Get oem if you dont want anything to go wrong for some unknown reason. Get redline/royal if you want to improve your shifting and de-crease the heat..becuase these lubes usually have better friction additives and DO coat any and all parts very well.

I've been telling people Synchromesh or Redline GL-4 for years!
Redline MTL shifts faster than the MT-90 in my opinion

this applies to almost all FWD or AWD transmission, except for the ones that are rear-wheel biased

the only problem with Pennzoil Synchromesh (also marketed as GM Synchromesh) is that it's much thinner than the 80W-90 that is recommended for our cars... but I've known many people to use it for years with 0 problems.

Royal Purple is GL-5... have fun when you suddenly can't downshift without grinding

I'm putting Amsoil in the new build, since they now offer a GL-4 and IMO they're the premier automotive lubricant manufacturer... nothing's too good for the transmission, especially since it won't ever get changed (being fully synthetic)

Anyone use ELF oil??
they have a Quartz 10w-50 for the engine... just curious

I just bought Royal Purple 75W-90 gear oil and im not sure if i want to put it into my car. However, it says this on the bottle:

"Meets Performance Requirments of API GL-4 and GL-5"

"Great for Manual Transmissions Requiring GL-4 or GL-5 Fluids"

"Contains limited split additive"

I've read good and bad things, i already spent the money on it...

Any other takers?

Use ATF-4 or Amsol Synchromesh. Don't use gear oil.

ive been using royal purple for quite some time now and i love it compared to the dealership fluid. I would highly recommend the royal purple 75/90 for anyones dsm. Good luck fella:thumb:

Remove the reverse light switch on top of the tranny, pour THREE quarts of what ever the hell kinda fluid you choose to run (personaly I run any name brand 80-90 weight) the reason to fill it at the top and not the traditional fill plug is because if you fill it at the fill plug you can only squeez in 2.5qts. If you fill it 3 qts it will submerge the gears into oil a bit more and more "oil sling" will happen inside. (Also a tip from shep racing) on top of the tranny you can either remove the speed sensor, the reverse light or move one shifter cable out the way and a bolt will reveil itself under a shifter cable and you can pour your three quarts in there. Use any name brand 80 90 oil (just my opinion) but whatever weight you go with, just fill 3qts not 2.5 as this lil trick does it more justice.

Only Mitsubishi gl4 belongs in our gear boxes, anything that contains sulphur will hurt your copper/bronze synchronizers
