what weight gear oil

Well im getting ready to drop the transmission out of my car tommorrow but also plan to change the gear oil. Im wanting to do royal purple but need to know what weight to do and how many quarts I need. What do you recommend?

Lots of people say to go with Redline MT-90. That's what i am going to try.

Others say to use ATF4. Although i don't know why you would you auto fluid in a manual.

what would you guys use on a 2g gst? i just took my tranny out and idk what fluid to put back it. its a 5 speed? thanks

I think extremepsi sells it. I liked the Heavy weight redline with BG, but that didn't last long. Now I prefer AMSoil, that gear lube takes a beating and even with time the tranny does not feel notchier. I use 75w-90 and use the severe duty in xcase and rear diff.

I used some cheap gear oil from autozone in mine. Something like 85 or 90 weight. Some pretty fast local DSM guys recommended that dsm's use a real heavy weight since our tranny's can be so notchy when they're old.

However if you have an upgraded or rebuilt trans I would go with whatever they (shep,tre, jack's) recommends to use.

Manual Transmission:

Transmission: 2.4 quarts
Transfer Case: 0.5 quarts
Rear Diff: 0.9 quarts

yes but leave the transfer case out you don't have one

I use pennsoil syncromesh with no problems. if it's empty,it will usually take just shy of 2.5 quarts.

I changed to this from whatever the PO had in it, and it made the shifts feel much better. If you are not looking to spend a ton of trans fluid then this stuff is perfect.
