I know this has been talked about a lot in random threads, in fact it's in the maintenance thread. However, I feel like I don't know what I'm doing here.

I'm in a 5 speed front wheel drive GS-T

Is this checkout right?

The trans holds 2.5 to 3 quarts, right?

So I could mix 2 parts MTL with 1 part MT-90 (which seems to a good idea, according to "someone at Redline telling some other dude on another DSM forum.")

A simple confirmation would be incredibly helpful, thanks.

So you guys are happy with it? I guess MTL is just a bit lighter, but basically the same thing.

The stuff I have in there wasn't any good from the start; now it's horrible, and long overdue to GTFO. I'm sure I can't go wrong here with either strategy.
80w90 gear oil in mine.
Wait - 80w90? Maybe I am getting the wrong one, or is this a typo?

EDIT: I checked a couple of stores, they don't have Redline 80w90, so I guess it's a typo.

I've used both MTL and MT90 in mixed and straight quantities. I didn't notice a difference between the MTL and MT90 when it was just that fluid in the transmission. I'm currently running either 2 MT90:1 MTL or straight MT90, I cannot remember. Either way, that mix will work fine for you.

I am very happy with my mt90 and have never even considered running anything else. It is was was recommended by TRE when I got my tranny. The only issue I have is on a cold morning it doesn't want to go back into 1st untill I am at a COMPLETE stop. This goes away after a few minutes of driving though.

That seems a little odd.

Have you made sure your master cylinder is adjusted properly?

Is it locked out until you stop or does it want to grind?

Everything is adjusted properly. I keep my car very well maintained and am not afraid to spend time and money to keep it that way. It doesn't grind at all nor is it completely locked out. It just takes more force than I would like to get it into first unless I am stopped completely. Like mentioned it is only for the first few minutes of driving on a COLD morning. After that it is flawless for the rest of the day. Maybe I have some issue I am unaware of but I alway wrote it off to the gear oil being cold and thick.

I've always sort of had the same problem. Sometimes it doesn't matter if it's warm. Course my master cylinder is shot for who knows how long, and I will be fixing it shortly.

I'm trying to do all the under car things at once, like fluids. I've got 4 jackstands and it is kind of a task to #### around with that:

Inspect entire undercarriage/suspension

Replace slave cyl
New SS clutch line
Rebuild Master cyl
Bleed clutch fluid

change oil
change gear oil

Wirebrush to rust under car
Rustoleum spray paint

Never heard of it.

Sounds good, I'll try it

Just run straight MT-90.
But I was thinking at least some MTL in there. I've always had a problem shifting (Double clutching into 2nd) the first time driving for the day.

But I may have completely the wrong gear oil in there for all I know. I completely don't remember what I put in there, but it was something off the shelf.

So yeah, it's quite possible straight MT-90 could very well fix that without MTL. Hmmm

I just bought four quarts of this three days ago for my trans, t-case and rear diff.. Valvoline/1 qt. 80W-90 Durablend synthetic gear oil (280) | Gear Oil | AutoZone.com Its what I ran in my fwd trans and never had any problems.

I believe that is GL-5 spec oil, which usually doesn't play nice with brass synchros.

I would also run something heavier (better) in the rear diff and transfer case (AWD).... Redline Heavy Shockproof FTW.

Start with straight MT-90 first, and if it doesn't shift smoothly at higher RPM's... then you can thin it a bit with some MTL.

If you have trouble shifting at low RPM's in specific gears, it's most likely not the type of gear oil you are using.

The only oil you will ever need.

is everyone afraid of Lucas? it is awesome stuff but i haven't used it on the dsm yet truck mustang mower and the bike LOL i didn't know if it has to have certain kind or not:tease:

This stuff is amazing. It feels like I got a rebuilt transmission. Shifting is perfect. I am so ####ing happy. Period.

I put 1 qt. MT90 and about 1.3 qt. MTL

I forgot to use my suction gun to try to get the stuff that won't drain. Bummer.

Thank you everyone for helping me pick out the good stuff.

Hell, it feels like it steers 'n' shit better now because of the differential? :D

I can really feel the difference because my power steering isn't hooked up yet. Feels really sporty.
