ok, i have a NON turbo, 2.0 talon with a manual trans. i read like 50+ pages, what fluid do i put in mine? every post is about the turbo, mines not a turbo...what its doing is grinding a lil when i shift in to second and third, just bought the car, wanna change all the fluids. if i wiggle the stick, no grind...just shift, goes in but grings a lil...any ideas? thanks.

The Mitsubishi dealership will give you the right kind. Or you can use ATF+4. Is the car your talking about a 420a or a 4g63 turbo (but without turbo for some reason). Because ATF+4 is for the New Venture Transmissions.

^^ yup. I was gonna say you can also run ATF +4. Chrysler also had a special fluid for the NV350; much like how mitsubishi does. You could ask for the specific fluid at the dealer if they still can get it. The redline mt-90 is great stuff, too.

just walk into advanced\orileys\autozone\nappa and tell them what you need it for and they will give you the right stuff.

running spec 4 tranny fluid will work the best. Putting new fluid into a tranny that is already grinding is gonna be a hit and miss on weather the tranny is gonna be fine or not. Be prepared for a tranny rebuild just in case.

I use Pennzoil Synchromesh in everything, and I change it more often than recommended because of it's thin viscosity.

I even use Synchromesh in my '97 GS even though the dealer recommends ATF+4. I figure the lubricity of the Synchromesh cannot be any worse than ATF, and my car shift so smooth with the Synchromesh in the trans that I can literally shift without the clutch more than half the time if I'm not under serious power.

i did the surch thing before i posted this thread, and just put in pensoil syncromesh....still grinds in third, stoped grinding in second, and if i wait a min, and if i just put it in to first, it grinds, but if i jiggle it, no grind now, i dont think the syncro mesh is working...(but its only been a day...) should i change it out agian? or should i wait? also where can i buy redline mt? (no waiting) and its the 4g63 nt

and update, found out my slave cyl is leaking a lil...could that cuase it?

found this on redlines website...

MTL & MT-90 are not for use in differentials with hypoid gears

this is in manual
mopar Hypoind Gear oil/api classification GL4 or higher sae 75w-85w

so we shouldnt use mt 90, according to the manual its bad... and we can use gl5 becuase it says higher? im just wondering on your thoughts...

I've put Redline MT-90 in a F5M22 tranny with no problems - a 1G, non-turbo tranny. Now, if you got the 420A motor with manual, you have to use Chrysler specific fluids.

GL-4 is for trannies...period.

GL-5 is a gear oil for differentials which also contains sulpher that will eat up the syncros since they are made of brass if used as a tranny oil.

Yes it could cause it because you're not disengaging the transmission/engine completely. But it depends on your leak. My SRT4's cylinder leaked and it was nearly impossible to get into 1st gear without grinding (from a stop).

what do u put in a 97 eagle talon non turbo 5-speen manual it calls for mopar ms9417 but what is equivalent manual transmission fluid for it?

You refreshed a 2-year old thread for a different application than yours.

The OP has a 1g N/T 2.0L 4G63 w/ F5M22 transmission. It has brass synchros or organic lined brass synchros depending on model year. His application uses a recommended 75w85 or 80w90 GL4 gear oil.

If you look a bit on this site, there was a thread just this last week pertaining to 2g n/t 420a 5-speed transmissions as your transmission model is classified as a T350 aka A578 aka F5MC1. You should be using ATF+4.
