Tranmission problem

We just got the car together and we cant get it into gear. When ever the car is jacked up and we shift it, its going in ok... But when its on the ground we cant shift it into any of the gears. Its just makes a grinding noise. I think its the gearbox, is this easy to rebuild? How much would it be to send it to a shop and rebuild it?

It sounds to me like its your synchros you can still drive the car but you'll have to double clutch before you shift into any gear that grinds to do this put the shifter out of gear by the one you want to shift in to then let out hte clutch for a second or so and try to shift again you can get it fixed but your better off getting an already rebuilt tranny from a tranny rebuild store it'll cost about 6 or 700

try ajusting the the shifter linkege, or adjusting the clutch under the dash.

Need a whole lot more info to acurately diagnose this. What exactly do you mean by "just got the car together?" Had you used the tranny before? Did it have any fluid in it before the install? Did you do anything with the clutch? How does the pedal feel? There are any number of things that will explain not getting the car into gear unless it is on jackstands. Fill in some blanks.
