Torque Spec wrong possibly?

ive got a 95 Talon TSI and im in the process of putting in Eagle Rods with CP pistons :D

my question is this... on the info sheet that came with the pistons, it said to only torque it to the crank at 21 lbs... 0_o

im no professional but doesnt that seem horribly low?

Torque what to the crank? The rods? What torque spec are you looking for? Have you tried contacting the manufacture of the parts (if aftermarket) to get a torque spec?

I connected each rod to the crank with the 2 bolts that came with it... The Info/Spec sheet that came with the rods said to only torque these bolts to 21lbs

In the case of an aftermarket product like that it would be best to contact Eagle as they will most likely have a different spec than stock but that does indeed sound a bit low.

You need to download or buy a 2g service manual so if you don't trust a piece of paper that comes with your pistons you can check the manual. Considering that the Mitsu manual says 14.5 ft/lbs for the rod caps so I'd say that piece of paper is close.

Again, FOLLOW THE SERVICE MANUAL because theres a lot more than just torque specs that go into re-assembling a engine.

Wow, dont have my tech book with me, im shocked that mitsu is so loose on the rod bolts, im used to 50+

At the same time, while factory spec is good for factory bolts and rods i would be more inclined to follow the aftermarket manufactures spec for the rods that you're actually using instead of the spec for the rods you threw out.

Thats kind of like using bolt torque specs on studs... it just doesn't work that way.

I would call to confirm. If they are arp bolts (which you should try to use if possible) they will have a higher torque spec. Call and ask them what the rod bolt stretch value is and use that, its a lot better than torque for rod bolts. Example my rod bolts are about 43ft.lb

alright ill call them tomorow... but i already had those bolts snap once and throw a rod... just dont want that to happen again

If you reused the stockers on a 7-bolt, that could have been the problem. They are 1 use, torque to yield.

They are 14.5 ft/lbs + 90*, tty.
Aftermarket rods don't use tty bolts.
