Titanium Sleeved Block still good?

5th Gen preludes and NSXs have carbon fiber reinforced sleeves :D . My roommate has a prelude and loves to tell people about that.

And they are prone to have big body kits and wings too with about 200 hp. OMG

Hey, I never said they didnt.

But hes not bad, hes actually pretty unricey. Really big into gadgets, tuning, and actual knowledge (read: big nerd). Too bad his car still cant beat mine :p

from what I understand, the Honda S2000 has titanium springs, retainers, and a titanium coating on the inside of the cylinder walls. this technology was developed during Honda's last stint in F1 (not the current B.A.R. team they make engines for). That is also where VTEC was in its infancy, and all K series engines have this same coating.

The main drawback to thier liberal use of titanium is that it will litteraly boil oil when it gets hot, so oil consumption goes up quite a bit. My friends S2000 uses roughly an extra quart of oil every 5k miles.

just my 2 cents

and i dont have my reading glasses on, so if I misspelled anything, please dont bother bringing it up!

titanium rods! lightweight and durable...i wouldnt mind some of those....not plannin on getting them ever due to $$$$$ ive seen a few at school and talked about them briefly but if i could have any rods for free id take some titanium :thumb:

:dsm:

You cannot run iron rings against titanium . I have worked with titanium making exotic parts and it gulls far to easy to use in cylinder walls . I just dont see this happening.
I am late to the party, but I was hoping to talk to someone who personally worked with titanium. With a titanium sleeve, would hardened steel piston rings and the right lubrication keep the the galling on the cylinder walls from happening?

This thread is 20 years old, man. You'd have better luck starting a new thread, because even if any of these guys did actually work with it, they've long since moved on.

And TBH anyone that has worked with, has probably been in a proprietary racing application and they aren't going to share that info on a public forum.

Yeah, I was just thinking that if some of the guys were inspired by the concept, they may have done testing or found a procedure install sleeves or technique to spray weld the inside of the cylinder then machine it to size etc, but your right they probably wouldn't even be around now. Have a great weekend.
