I started to pull my block apart because i found metal shavings in the pan and filter. I got the head of and notice that the piston looks like they have valve contact please take a look at the photos let me know if its normal and if the pistons are still usable.

Common to see.

Vlaves touched the pistons at some point.

Smooth out the high spots.

Make sure the rings rotate freely in there ring lands.

how would i do that? this is gonna be my first do it at home rebuild.

Are you going to pull them from the block? Or leave them in?

Yup, those got hit... Like mentioned, smooth them down. If you found metal in the pan though, I am betting you are going to have to at least disconnect the rods from the crank to see if your bearings are ok. Is there any scoring on the cylinder walls?

i drop everything out including piston, rods and crank. at first i thought it was my bearings and main bearings but once i got everything off all my bearings where ok. it did not score the cylinder walls or crank at all. just minor scratches on a couple cam lobes and one cam journal. so can this shaving in my pan and filter be from my pistons?

since i had everything off. i was planing to take the crank and block in to the machine shop. have it clean and get the crank inspected because i can run my nail through one lobe on the crank and feel a little lumpy. you guys think this is too much?? also one last thing if i was to purchase new bearing sets is it one size fit all?
