I am Saving up cash to rebuild the used block I'm getting in the mail also going to use what ever parts that are salvadgeable from the cracked block in my gst that's still running .

I'm going to have. About $1000.

In just looking for tips or helpfull things that everyone found helpfull to know when rebuilding.

Take your t-i-m-e. If something needs replacing, replace it or you will regret it later (likely in the immediate future). Most importantly, enjoy it.

Take your time, measure everything, and make sure everything on the inside of the engine is clean, so clean you would eat off of it, no dust, no dirt no nothing. Clean oil passages with brushes etc. Don't put shit or scratch the block deck, or the head. Ask questions, read everything you can before you start. Look at the online manuals, when they call out a measurement like oil clearance make sure you know the idea behind it. Use good assy lube, and prime the engine. Make sure your cam timing is right... have fun with it. It's one of my favorite parts of this hobby!

Definitely take your time. Cut corners and you'll pay for it in the long run. Have the shop manual nearby at all times and pay attention to torque specs when reassembling everything. <-- EDIT: cory21 beat me to it

Also, if it helps, put all your screws, bolts, etc. in marked plastic baggies so that they're easy to find when you put everything back together. Plus you'll avoid losing all those hard to replace bolts.

Also, if you're like me, who takes forever to do anything in cars and is forgetful of how it all goes back together, mark off hoses, plugs, lines, etc. with different colored tape. That way you don't have anything left unplugged.

You should start a journal on this site too. GL w/everything.
