can anyone donate their .02cents to me and give me any advice for an engine install. ive already pulled the old motor and im confident in putting in the new one. i just want any tips/advice from people with experience. im using a cherry picker and im dropping in the motor with the tranny attached. thanks in advance

Balance Bar as previously mentioned. Maybe even consider dropping the motor without the tranny. And bring the tranny up from the bottom...

how many of the accessory belts can i have already put on when i drop the motor? or can i only have the timing belt then do all the drive belts once the motor is in? i just want as many things complete before the motor goes in.

I'd keep the belts off, you want as much room as possible when you put the motor in. Take your time man, and make sure you do everything right the first time.

is it possible to have the accessory belts on though? id rather do that stuff with the motor out of the car.......

There is alot of room it the radiator is pulled to put the motor and tranny in at the same time. Once you get the motor and tranny in the air try to have the tranny in lower than to motor that way you can slide it in and level it out once every thing is clear.

I don't know. Try it.

Nah, it ends up getting confusing if you were smart enough to not disconnect the power steering pump.

Theres another tip when removing the engine...dont screw with draining the power steering, just remove the pump from the bracket and bungee it to the fender.

Why does that matter? I took mine off. The only thing I hung up was the ac compressor.

Why are you so worried about putting the belts on? It's really not that hard. Lift the motor over the car, hook up your ac compressor and pulley, drop it in and put your belts on. Simple.

Or maybe I'm missing something? Is it really harder to install the belts on a 1g?

I hate dropping the tranny alone. I would put the motor and tranny in together

read my first post again.

i guess ill try it your way steve. its just that i hate messing with the belts with the motor in the car its so crowded on the timing side of the engine bay.:barf:

Sometimes the transmission gets in the way when you put the engine in. I wait until the
engine is in there then put the transmission on, it seems easier to me. I makes it easier.

hey guys ...
i am puttin a motor into my 95 gsx and had everything set up rite when i started to drop the motor and tranny in ... when i started to bolt the motor to the frame it didnt line up properly and my oil pump pulley is touching alot on the frame ... is there any way to get the engine and tranny in and lined up with the problem i am having ... need help asap ... im tried on looking at my dsm in the driveway all the time and ready to get it out on the street and tear up some hondas .. all help appreciated

I put my engine in from the bottom with the tranny attached , just take out the cross member and its easy as all hell, then use a floor jack to make minor changes to get the mount bolts in.

you can do it the only advice i have is to keep the transfer case off its easier to put it in after word as far as the belts put them on all of them its easier install the alt. ext. you keeping your ac? put it in from the top just make sure its secure you actually dont want it straight the trans has to go in first then lower the engine down then bring both up together with a jack or however you want to do it should only take you a couple hrs... and its much easier with someone to help eathier with the jack or whatever extra hands are great!! good luck let me know if you need anything else
